hi i dont know any thing about shotguns always wanted a tacticool black sgun .whats the best bang for the buck?which ones are best to stay away from?

Mossberg 500 series perhaps.

Mixed reviews on the Remmy 870 Express. Never used one to comment.

Winchester SXP Defender is another option.

IMO, the best bang for the buck in a quality defensive shotgun is the Winchester SPX Defender. Hands down. For well under the $400 mark, you will not find a better gun.

the new Winchester SXP is great. It almost pumps itself. Very smooth action. Can be had for 350-400 or so. They have them at sail.ca.

And there is always your Mossberg 500. I've seen one for sale just recently here on EE.

X 2 for older wingmaster, but I prefer the 14" barrel. All parts are interchangeable and it has the most options for accesories.

Mossberg 500 and Winchester SXP are always good choices. So is the Maverick 88 (mostly a Mossberg 500 as it is). I've heard bad things about the finish of the 870 Express guns but they work just fine from what I've seen.

I've got the 500 and it's great, field/security combo. Super light though so it wouldn't be my first choice for a newer shooter that may be recoil sensitive.

X3 wingmaster.

Barrel length is personal preference but I too agreed 14 inched is perfect as you can have a plus 1 extension which stay flush with barrel just remember to look for one with flexitap then you are GTG.

I'd say it depends on your budget and what you plan to use it for. I think in the $3-400 dollar mark the Mossberg 500, Winchester SXP and Dominion/Norc 870 copies (in that order) are your best bet.

my black shotgun is a 8.5 grizz witch whille being tons of fun to shoot is not what you want for a no bs shotgun (deafining, loss of velocity, low round capacity) i would recoment a 12 inch grizzly or better yet buy a old wingmaster buy the 12 inch barrel off canada ammo and be set

I have a Marine Magnum with a SpecOps stock and a Dominion Grizz 12.5" and would have no qualms using either in a no bs situation.

Mossberg 500. ZMB edition is priced cheaper than a stock 500 if you don't mind the green logo, same gun otherwise. Close enough to Kawasaki green so I don't mind it myself.

Just got my grizzly 12 with no buttstock. I've used plenty of 870's, and everything seems the same. It cycles a little rougher, but is really, really short. I can't wait for my stock to get here so I can take it out and shoot it.
