cost of good barrel?

depends on what you want to do with it I guess....Savage heavy barrels have a very good reputation for acurracy if you want a plinking/varmint/target rifle...but if you want to go to 1000 yards...maybe a custom barrel is the way to go.

Custom bbl. is better by far. I got one installed by Gaillard and action trued. Did a beautiful job, and more accurate than any factory rifle i've ever shot. About 750 IIRC

Not long ago (before the new US laws) one could get a Badger, Hart, Kreiger, etc. for $300+ from the US, usually unchambered, no waiting, don't know about now(the US price is the same)

The barrels are cheaper now because of the strong cnd dollar but the wait is much longer due to the import paperwork.

They are still the same US price. + shipping, you are able to land them at this price plus taxes and $5 brokerage.

I have one on order from Adams Lake Rifle Barrels, he imports Krieger Barrels. Just Google them, the website is very informative.

Since you have a stevens order a barrel through a dealer from savage. Their barrels are excellent imo. I have a Savage BTVS in 223 (1 in 9 twist) and it shoots great. Others at our range have 22-250's 223's and 204's and they all shoot good. Cost shouldn't be over $300.00 in all with taxes shipping etc. Get a reputable gunsmith to install if you don't have experience.

I believe Shilen ships barrels to Canada pre threaded for savages.

pac nor does pre threaded bbl's for the savage stevens line up as well.
i had jason spencer at gunco put a 28" pac nor heavy bbl*.950 at the muzzle*
on my .300WM stevens 200 it was around $600 installed. still gotta tune the rig up but accuracy got alot better after the swap
