I have an 870 express with a 28" vent rib w/ removable mod. choke, and a 20" smooth bore deer barrel w/ rifle sights. I was contemplating having the deer barrel tapped to receive the Rem choke tubes so I can play around with patterning buckshot and maybe even use it as a grouse gun...the short barrel should allow for a quick swing.

What should I expect ot pay to have this done and do you think it's worthwhile?

Not often a barrel can be adapted to the Remington choke tubes. The barrels factory fitted with tubes are considerably heavier than the previous fixed choke barrels. Other aftermarket tubes can be fitted, it usually is close to a couple hundred dollars with extra tubes. You can buy a new tubed barrel for a little more...

Buckshot is useless for anything but firefights in a phone booth. If the rear sight folds down, the 20" barrel is all set for grouse as it is.
