Cost per round, store bought VS homemade.

You won't save on standard ammo like 9mm, 45, 40 etc.... where the cost savings are when you load rare ammo like 10mm, 38super, etc...

same components, just different brass. I shootmy 38super and 10mm's for the same as 9mm's and 40's

after the equipment is paid for, savings is noticble. Mine paid itself for over 15 years now. Anything new is savings.

Factory ammo.. MISS.. very expensive.

Quality handloads.. HIT... dirt cheap.

When someone can offer me precision rifle ammo that will fit my rifle and shoot 1/3 min at 1000yds, I will certainly consider buying it. Till then, factory ammo is way too expensive for my uses.

YMMV

When you factor in your hourly wage, reloading does not save you money. I reload because I can tailor my loads to my needs. I don't reload as much as I could, because I would rather spend my time with my family. Or shooting. Or fishing. Or...

Reloading is a hobby in itself, if you factor in an hourly wage. Even at $20 an hour, say at 500 rounds an hour, thats roughly $0.04 a round

I would like to see what components you use to get $4 /50

even at a consertitive level, at 2016 prices

For quantity of 1000 reloads
dominion primers $27.50 / 1000 (bought at quanties of 10k) $27.50 / 1000
Powder $30 pound (7000 grains a pound, 3.5 grains per round) $15 / 1000
Projectiles $90 / 1000

Still makes $135 / 1000 or $13.50 / 100 not including brass costs. I would like to know how you get $4.00/50 as I average $6.25/50

usually Cabelas or Bass Pro has blazer for sale just under $10box on sale, so savings on 9mm isn't as much. Other calibers, savings is better.

There is a cost savings to reloading. But that tends to get chewed up fast because you can now ''afford'' to practice and shoot more rounds, more often.

20 rounds of Horn Custom Shop .40 vmax 204 costs 26.00 roughly 1.30 per shot. My Reloads run me 12.65 for 20 rounds. I'm primarily a varminter, and the 204 is spectacular on gophers. This cost saving allows me to play more often , and for a lot longer.

In fact, if i purchase the bullets by the 250 qty, my reloads cost me the same as a 17hmr. And I get more range, more punch, more of everything that makes varminting fun

$4/50 9mm reasonable depending on price of lead, my costs for 9mm per 50 are $4.25

lead $0.8/lb or $0.7 per 50 projectiles.
powder $45\lb or $1.94 per 50
primers $32.20 or $1.61 per 50

Yeah if you cast your own, I was referring another post where they were comparing to factory ammo.

I dont know where you guys find all this time to relaod. I cant even find time to go shoot...lol... When I looked into reloading it would end up costing more if I factor in my time.

Reminds me, i will step away from cgn and go reload 200 9mm in 1 hour.

You could spend less time on cgn and more time reloading :)
