Cost to cut and crown a barrel question.

Moral dilemma here. I have a hankering to buy a stainless 7mm rem mag for hunting deer and assorted critters of the same size. But all I can find are 26 inch barrels. I have been on the hunt for a 24 inch WBY Vanguard but they are as scarce as a smart lieberal. So I guess I might have to get a 26 inch one and get it cut and crowned...any ideas as to cost.

An please don't start into this all you need is a 270 win or a 30-06 etc convo. I just like spending money on things I don't need!!
 
I'd guess $20 - $100, depending on who does it and how its done.
Hacksaw, file and hand crowning tool at the low end, precision lathe job on the other.
 
Not sure what your gunsmiths charge you there but I've had a bunch done in the Ottawa area from my local Smith. I've always had the barrel hopped and sights re-installed. Always played between $85-$100. Hope this helps
 
I was thinking around $150.00 or so. But if its around $100.00 even better. There aren't any sights so that simplifies it. Its amazing how that extra 2 inches of barrel snags on so many more tree limbs.

Gotta be done good and proper. I have a chopsaw,files and a brass screw ( sounds like a "here hold my beer moment")
 
I bought the crowning kit from Dave Mason reamers from the states with an 11 degree crown, it has replaceable cutters and pays for itself quite quickly, I have had great results with it
 
Lots of places in AB to do it. I K and S have done it for me, was under a hundred, whatever muzzle you want.

Same. Have done dozens. 22 6mm 30 cal 8mm 35 cal and so on. Sometimes a bit fussy on cutting oil, most of the time Kroil works.

I like my 7mm mags a bit shorter at 22. A bit more bark, a little less velocity, a lot better handling.
 
For myself it is DIY. Hacksaw to length, square with file, bevel outside edge with file, countersink with 118 degree 1" drill bit, finish crown with marble and lapping compound.
 
If you came into my shop and I was expecting you I could do it in my lathe for $40... 26 inch to 24 inch - leaving your scope mounted while doing it ... about a 10 minute job...
