Cost

Ya this supply chain problem is planned as part of the green new deal.

They fan the flames of the pandemic to choke off supply and reduce production all over the world. This reduces pollution.

The low production creates a supply shortage that results in higher prices.

Since they decimated the economy with lock downs and reduced productivity, they have to print money and spend it stupidly to get it into circulation... this causes inflation and reduces the buying power of your savings.

To counter inflation, they are now raising interest rates... Now you cant afford to buy things, production is low, pollution is reduced and kids cannot afford to move out of their parents house.

Or vote conservative, solve the supply chain restrictions and make products available with high inventory supplies and get the economy moving again... but wait... then pollution goes up and we have to choke everyone with carbon tax.

Its a viscous circle.

I used to reload for the joy of the hobby, for the satisfaction of unlocking the potential of a rifle through careful measurement of components, all to punch those tiny groups in paper.

With prices now, I reload only for hunting.

Yep, that’s what I’m doing. Gone are the days of punching paper with a hunting rifle.

Nosler 280 AI factory ammunition. I think was loaded with the 160gr Accubond. $179.99 per 20.

Recently seen that. Thought I would share.

Budget presently has Speer Grand Slam, 160grn, .284 bullets at $30/50, plus tax and shipping would bring that to around $40/50 to your doorstep.

If you're purchasing powder/primers at todays asking prices but already have brass cases, this would bring the loaded cost per round to appx $1.35 each. Be generous and say $1.50 per round or $30 per box with very good components, custom loaded for the requirement of your particular rifle.

IMHO, that's a bargain.

If that’s a bargain then it’s time for me to put up for sale some Berger 215 Hybrids at the current prices I’m seeing on the EE.

Just saw some LRM primers on the EE $60 per hundred. Don't know whether to laugh or cry. $12 for primers for a box of ammo alone. All the power to him if he sells them but I hope they just sit there.

I got lot of everything I need, running a little short on large rifle mag primers, only about 300 of them left, other then that not worried.
Loaded up for a couple buddies this year for deer, they both #### their pants at the price of factory ammo and hit me up. Some 243 for one guy, he dropped a buck opening weekend. Other was for a buddies 12 year old kid, 308 but light load with 125gr SST, he also dropped a buck opening weekend, first one. Glad I had a hand in that, I like helping buddies out.
Couple weeks ago gave a cousin 1lb of powder, her kid reloads for their hunting gang and couldn't find any 4350 anywhere. She sent me back about 30lbs of deer/moose meat which was nice, been crushing that for the last week.

Considering a 20 round box of factory ammo, with similar components is on the shelves of local gunshops at over $70 and the hand loads are tuned for your personal rifle, it's a bargain at today's prices.

Yes , everything seems to be going sky high price wise, including ammo and related products . A lot of folks at the gun club have reverted to using 22 rimfires for plinking , skill development , and range use , and keep their more expensive center fire ammo for use in the field . Some ammo like 303 has dried up completely , and some folks on ####### are listing pre owned boxes of 303 for 85 bucks a box....almost unbelievable .

This shortabe may just be a boon to the learning curve of a lot of folks.

I'm not just going on about keeping a decent supply of reloading components available.

Shooting rimfire for practice is just good common sense, even when supplies are plentiful at reasonable prices.

Shooting rimfire is one of the best ways going to cure a bad flinch, developed by shooting heavy recoiling cartridges.

I've been re=examining the cost benefit of reloading with the increases in the prices of components, and the gap has closed a lot, I'm still not going to be shooting factory anytime soon.

I think if I'm conservative with my shooting I have a lifetime supply

But I do need another few rifles, a bolt action 22 Hornet would go a long way to stretching out my reloading supplies
