Costco safe's

im sure it would be "legal" unless broken into or stolen. if you end up buying it , bolt it the the floor, or to a larger safe.

an old school locker is legal , but if its broken into the cops may charge you with unsafe storage.

They should be legal, but I didnt like the look of them. I got one of the bigger gun safes made by honeywell from Costco. You can get them on sale for $100 off if you time it right.

Here's mine and I love it. It holds my Ruger 345 .45 and XD .40. Super easy to get into and its "fire proof". I've got it bolted right to the floor, but I do think that if somebody had a pry bar and a couple of hours, they could get it loose. Carrying it out is another thing, it probably weighs 80 lbs without all of my crap in it.

can't go wrong with a "firearms" safe. If the safe you bought was ment for firearms specifically, if they are stolen you have a better chance of not being charged. its when you adapt things to store firearms that gets you into the grey area

If it is a light weight safe I would consider bolting it to the floor or wall so that it is not easily picked up and taken away.

I regret buying a Costco safe. Mine is having electrical problems. But it is the big model. The big green "Brinks" one...

put new batteries in it, mine was going screwy with the electronic, and when i checked it said the batteries were still good. i put new ones in and i was good to go

Thank goodness I was reading this thread! I thought my safe was messed up when I punch in my code and it doesn't work. It usually takes 3-4x before it recognizes the code. Guess I'll have to make a trip to Walmart for new batteries.

thats exactly what happened to mine, i would have to enter the code 5 - 6 times, and sometimes if would only give me like half a second to open it. new batteries will fix it.

I bought the little Sentry fire safe for my pictures and family momentos and the larger one for a hundred off for my chunks. If you read the manual on the Sentry safe it says that this is not to be used to hold or store firearms. If the cops got wind of that should it be broken into ...

Having said that it is a great little safe and difficult to rip off - especially when bolted to a cement floor, wall stud or floor joist.

Thanks guys...where would you recommend getting a small "legal" handgun safe then? Do they exist locally (vancouver area) for a fair price? I'm thinking a bolted Costco unit should be legal (that's pretty safe storage if you ask me, but I understand the points you guys made)...any L.E. types offer an opinion?

I'd probably go to Reliable on Fraser or Italian on Renfrew. They have a few selections there, but I'm not sure about small safes. I might head out there on Saturday, I'm looking for another safe as well.

I'm using a $100 stack-on from Canadian Tire.

Here's a couple pics to judge the room in it. It's slightly awkward getting guns in and out without banging them, but not unreasonable if you watch what you're doing. Pre-drilled for lag screws into wall or floor.
