Hi All,

I'm looking to buy a cot, I've never owned one before so I'm looking for any recommendations. I'll only be using it for basecamp so weight isn't a consideration. The ones that have caught eye are the Cabelas Outdoorsman Cot and the Davis Tent Big Boy Cot.

Cheers!

The cabelas deluxe model is what we use for years now.
Not sure the model number or anything but they have 2 that are similar.... the better one costs more but they do put them on sale from time to time.

I'm a small guy, so I just use the regular cabelas camp cot. As does one friend. I've had it for quite a few years (close to 10, but not quite) and it is still going strong.

My bigger friends both have the Cabela's Big Outdoorsman Cot. One friend was pushing 300lb when he bought it (hes since lost some weight), the other friend is a solid 200lb+. The 200lb guy can fit himself AND his border collie on it, they're big cots. So far so good, they are both happy campers.

The Big Outdoorsman cots take up a LOT of space in a tent.

I have a regular sized cot with an extra big cot pad. I find that works great. With my weight on it the pad rolls up a bit and even though the pad is hanging over the edges of the cot it’s enough to keep my 205-220 lbs tossing and turning ass centered on the cot all night. I run a yoga mat on the pad, and a wool blanket on top of that. It rolls up and the pad straps keep everything together. My pad has never been wet like a lot of people report as an issue.

If weights not an issue, Aerobeds can work well. Some have inflatable bottoms or folding frames to give you the height.

And they run off smaller sized inverters IIRC.

I've used the one from Cabela's now for a few years and it works great, but is a little heavy. Remember to buy one that is a little bigger and some 2" thick single bed memory foam from Amazon. You can trim it to fit and it will make sleeping a lot more comfortable than guitar string tight cot material.

Weight isn't a huge consideration, I'm only going to be using the cot when I'm close to the truck, otherwise I'm sleeping on my luxurious thermorest sleeping pad.
