I am trying to finish up a vehicle related project that needs some 1/2" or 5/8" (5/8" much preferred of the two sizes ) heavy cotton webbing in either tan, green or black. I need about five yards of the webbing, The thickness would be about the same as found on MilVehs and will be used as a welting. If anyone has some, or access to some, or knows where to find/buy it please contact me.

If you find any at all, in any colour, cotton dyes really easily. And cheaply.
Have never once seen rolls of 1/2" or 5/8" cotton webbing. And haven't looked. If I had I'd have seen this. And the W's. 47,900 results with a net search for cotton webbing straps. Who'd a thunk it? .spaenaur.com for their site.

Sunray actually has it right. Spaenur is where even the army generally buys it's textiles supplies. There will be two problems though....it comes by the roll and not by the yard, and secondly it is not cheap. But they carry the old time cotton web as opposed to the modern day nylon type strapping which slips through the buckles.

I have used webbing before in the appropriate places for welting, but I'll usually soak it in tar first so it doesn't retain moisture. Too often the only rust-through I find on a military vehicle fender will be where the welting was.

Maybe bulk kerosene lamp / lantern wick - thinking northern Ontario / BC local hardware store or, if it is still going, the Cumberland hardware store in the US that did mailorder for 'oldtime hardware items" ? [ Should have Googled Lamp Wick before I typed the above - many sources but mostly US based ].
