Cougar attacking elk.

Found this on another forum.

Story is, last week, in Washington the photographer jumped the elk that was laying in the snow and the elk got up with this attached to it.

The cat noticed the photographer after about five minutes, let go and walked off. The elk headed the other way apparently fairly fit. (Likely some subcutaneous trauma though not to mention infection -- the cat or some other critter will be eating it before too long.)

Wow...that's some incredible photos. Talk about being in the right place at the right time with a camera in hand. :)
 
It looks like kitty bit off more than he could chew.........:D

Oh I think that if Mr. Photog hadn't interrupted, the elk would be dead. He had it by the windpipe. The elk was already down when the picture taker interrupted. He jumped it back to its feet and alerted the cat.


It is a MYTH that they only attack sick and weak. I've seen them stalking a full grown stallion all on his own.
