my cougar is being naughty she won't cycle the fired shell out and closes the camber with the empty again but does reset the trigger
when I hand cycle the action the shell does eject
I have stripped her down and cleaned and lubed her the gas ports are clear and the seals are undamaged
almost tempted to open up the gas ports or cut the recoil spring
I have a couple hundred bird shot and about 100 slugs fired and this are factory shells
any ideas?

thanks John

Low recoil slugs or the full power ones?

First thing to do is make sure the gas system is properly assembled. If it is then remove the stock and clean the recoil/action spring, action tube and guide/plunger. Polish the guide/plunger with emery cloth or 1000 grit sandpaper, check that the inside of the action tube is smooth as well. If it looks like rough spots are present polish with emery cloth/1000 grit SP wound on a long dowel and chucked into a drill. Lubricate the spring and guide with 5w30 motor oil then re-assemble. Check the action arms/bolt assembly for rough spots as well, do this while you have the recoil/action spring removed. There should be very little drag when you manually cycle the action back and forth. If it binds find the rough spot and polish it up. Polish the top surface of the hammer and the bottom of the cam/locking block. If none of that helps then it is possible that the gas ports are out of spec in which case the gun should be returned to the seller or a gunsmith if it is no longer on warranty.
