I havn't heard the complete story myself. But my mom said she seen on Breakfest television yesturday that a Lady in Hockley Village had a cougar in her backyard. I heard it seriously injuried her one dog and they had pictures of the tracks. This is not the first time a cougar has been sighted around here. I can't find the story on breakfest television website. If anyone heard anything more or has the story plz post it here.

At my cottage in Sharbot Lake, Ont. they had an over population of deer a few years back. They released a couple cougars into the area to "naturally" thin the deer numbers.
I haven't seen them myself, but a couple people down the road have.

The other week on the news there was a report about the police shooting a mountain lion in Chicago.It was the first mountain shot in the state of Illinois since the 1800's.At first they were not sure if it was a wild one or a tame one that had escaped.After checking the dead animal they said it was a wild one.

we had a warning as well at my cottage in Minden Ontario...there was 2 sited there 2 years ago...I am wondering if global warming could be affecting this
I live about 2 minute drive from where the cougar was spotted. i dont know the lady that seen it but i want to go look at the tracks and see if I can find a deer kill or something. The public school I went to about 8 years ago had a cougar in the back field. People had it on video sitting in the tree looking down into the school playground :S

Right up MNR's alley ... busy (trying to) managing people instead of wildlife !
Neither global warming nor climate change would be responsible for a wild cougar being found in Ontario. It is probably one released by a private individual. The MNR wouldn't do anything without getting Public input first.......or would they! Possibly someone should have our female Minister of Natural Resources respond?
It was the MNR that released the cougars at my cottage. I would assume they talked to the town council at the very least, although I can't say for sure.
The MNR was involved in a MAJOR screw up at my cottage several years ago. There was an explosion in porcupine population so the released some fisher's into the area because they can kill the porcupine's very effectively by going up under the jaw and grabbing them by the neck.
Anyway, the MNR was supposed to release 2 non breeding pairs, but ended up releasing males and females. Now there is a problem with fisher population, and they are very vicious little bastards. They have killed people's dogs, cats, and have even attacked several humans.

I don't think the MNR released them. But I bet some people got them as little kitties then released them, because they got way to big.
Three summers ago we were on our way to see my father-inlaw in Kanata. We were around the Maxville area when something off in the middle of a field caught our eyes, it was a mother cougar and a young one walking towards the bush about 150 yards away from the 417. My wife and I looked at each other in disbelief, we asked each other what we had just seen. Every trip to Ottawa since then, we scan the fields hoping to get another glimpse.

The MNR denies releasing any Cougars anywhere. Frankly, they just do not have the $ for such foolishness.

The MNR denies everything. When that doesn't work they lie. When that doesn't work they blame you.
Now that is probably closer to the truth.
