BOB BOUGHNER

The Daily News

An Orford resident reported sighting a cougar early Saturday morning near his residence.

Police were unable to confirm or deny the sighting, but are asking the public to be aware of the report and exercise caution.

Ummm, no, they don't,

Sorry, I should have been more clear....(from what I have read) the MNR feel that the cougars that have been reported, are most likely captive releases, and not a true, native (endangered) species.

But, they are doing several research studies on them now...including trail-cams/ DNA, trying to determine their origin. :)

Captive releases? Well the cougars I see every day are definitely native to Canada. I have studied them far and wide...they seem to have a very common background. Most have been divorced, have at least one live at home son that is their "life" and never has to leave home. Most wear too tight jeans that accent their I'm over 40 curves and a support bra to put the "girls" back up as close to their original location as possible. Their origin is as yet unknown but it seems to be rooted deep in their disbelief of the aging process. Many have been caught on camera but not usually trail cams as they don't seem to frequent the forests often therefore creating those rare sightings from outdoorsman. They are however photographed often in bars bending over pool tables and hanging over their half their age friends usually with a bottle of beer in their hands trying to look "young and cool". As for DNA samples, it is probably best not to take any from them during the weekends or within 2 days of the weekends finish as you never know how much mixed dna will turn up and set your studies back. There is no doubt in my mind that we have cougars in Ontario, I see them every day!....:bigHug:

I have yet to see one on S.W. Ontario, would be pretty cool tho.

saw an adult jump across the trail last summer while quading and saw tracks about 5-6 years ago. they are definitely around, but very hard to get proof. we searched for an hour or more trying to find tracks of the cat we saw, but there wasnt a single one to be found. another person saw the animal as well so i know im not crazy ;)

I live about 20 minutes north west of Kingston and there have been several cougar sightings in this area too, some by people I know and trust as seasoned hunters.

This would be the four legged variety too, just for clarification!:D

I'm still getting persistent reports here near Oshawa, Ontario of cougars RELEASED by the MNR for 'coyote control.' Supposedly there are trail cam pics from 2km up the road but I haven't verified. Tonight we had to deal with severely spooked cattle on the loose, and the attending police officer (worried about road hazard) brought up the cougar issue that I had heard as rumour last fall.

I was tenting in the 'Back Forty' with my daughter when I heard the cows 'talking' to ours at 3am. Now I'm worried about being out there at night. Not sure what to do.

Until I see one for myself, or get a pic of one from my many trail cams I have out at bear baits I will remain very sceptical. Every pic of a cougar that has showed up in my area has turned out to be a hoax, so it makes believing they are here very hard.
One would think that with the amount of trail cams there would be valid pics out there.
