Cougars introduced in Southern Ontario?

He called the MNR about this and I guess what they told him was it was someones pet that they could not take care of and let it loose.

That is their standard response. Apparently there's tame cougars running all over the province...

A co-worker's father saw one. Came out in front of his truck, jumped clear across the road to the ditch...

I know for a fact the MNR released 2 female cougars in the Frankford/Stirling area around 2001 to lower the deer population. They also released fishers to drop the rabbit population and now they are snacking on peoples cats and dogs I haven't seen a decent rabbit in years....My local MNR officer confirmed this when a friends sheep started going missing and the only tracks the MNR found were from a large feline.....Cougars are protected in Ontario apparently only farmers protecting their livestock can kill one with out repercussions.... But if I ever saw one SSS

Lots of sightings on Manitoulin, but the MNR doesn't have hard evidence (scats or good tracks) to confirm. Manitoulin Expositor has $500 prize for authentic picture they can verify was taken here. One was seen recently dragging a deer across a road.

Cougars native to all of Canada...............last known eastern cougar shot in Maine in 1940 but lots of sighting and tracks since.Native from Chile to the treeline in the north..............Harold .... had two sceaming in a valley when we were bear hunting this spring in AB
