I heard that for IPSC, one has to have a double action pistol with a thumb safety. My Ruger KP944 is DA/SA and it has a decocker which when engaged completely deactivates the trigger. In light of this, my gun can never be cocked and locked, only completely deactivated.
Could I use my gun for IPSC (Ruger KP944)

IPSC is very specific on types for the "Production" division. Here's the list:

It may be eligible for Open division, but you'll be up against some "all business" custom guns.
I don't know much about that Ruger, but a review of the rest of the IPSC rules will tell you if there are any characteristics that would disallow it.

This pistol is not production legal since it is not on the list. You do not need a thumb safety to shoot IPSC in standard. Glocks for example don't have thumb safeties either. The rules state that the primary safety must be functional. This would not be a good gun for IPSC but you could shoot it in Standard.
