Hey fellas - I just got 8 pounds of ear shattering joy in a jug from our good friends over at Higginson's - the only guys in fuggin Canada with the smarts to maintain viable stocks of powder for the last little while, apparently!

In any event I have a crock of H4895 and can't wait to start loading for it. Bullets for starters are 150 gr Nosler BT's. What kind of velocities should I shoot for and how many grains of powder should I start at?

This will just be a plinking load...but now that I am familiar with the Springfield...I'll be damned if that thing isn't going M14 for some reason. Can any of you guys recommend a robust hunting load that might pack a little more punch than the standard target ammo?

I was just about to suggest the same load. I think velocity wise, you want 2600 fps for a 175gr bullet, 2700 fps for a 168 gr bullet, and 2800 fps for a 150 gr bullet. Google "reloading for the M14 by Zediker" for some good insight on what powders and bullets to use.

I'm working on a node around 42grs IMR 4895, 155gr nosler CC. Im finding it a little difficult right now keeping everything on the rifle consistent while developing a load. Sights, gas shims, etc. I am thoroughly enjoying it though, let us know how that h4895 works out!
