Curious to know how many are very familiar with their platform.

Disassembly & Reassembly = Remove trigger group, Stock, Op Rod spring & Guide, OP Rod , Bolt & Gas piston + reassemble entire package to functioning order, regardless of which stock you're running.

Been there ...Bad habits I picked up from teaching the 50 and the old 30 cal GPMG classes where you mix the parts up into a pile too...lol

I could do that no problem, it's just the full bolt takedown or trigger assembly I couldn't do. It's hard enough doing the bolt without the m14doc tool

I think the hardest part (imo) would be connecting the op rod to the bolt roller in the dark.

I'd have to say that I've become so familiar with the M1A platform in the last 3 years that I can't think of another rifle I know more about. I mean, I can recall the headspacing in my chamber easier than my phone number, that's sad.

What's sadder is that I've only shot the gun about 5 times in the last 3 years, but you know how it is. A project that's never complete!

Never tried but I don't see any difficulties.

I used to to do a bit of instruction in a militia regiment. One of my favourites was to have the juniors field strip an FN...when it was completly stripped I made everyone make and keep eye contact with me while they reassembled the rifle. I wasn't standing still either; walking a zig-zag around the perimeter of the room.

Just tried it today after shooting with it since I had seen the thread a few days ago.
It was harder than I expected :D Getting the gas piston to drop into the piston well in the right orientation was the worst!
Give me a C7/C8 to do in the dark though.....

gas piston trick. stick a bore brush in it with a section of cleaning rod, drop in and turn till' it falls in the rest of the way......also, when working with the M14, its always a good idea to have that movie on..makes it that much more fun
