could you recommend me a good dealer for affordable flintlock muskets?

I am almost certain the gun was made in India and I would not consider it a quality piece although a number of people on here have bought them and shot them. I would be a bit suspicious of the quality of the breaching and further would expect the frizzen within a short time, to require recasing.

It all comes back to ; you get what you pay for. If you only wanted it for shooting blanks at re enactments and can do your own repairs and maintenance, buy it. If you are looking for a dependable gun with minimal servicing required other than normal cleaning after shooting, buy an american made gun from a reputable dealer, TOW being one.

My first flintlocks were italian replicas (kits) of TC Hawken rifles. They were reasonalbe for the price but not as durable as the TC. Neither had the lines of higher priced guns nor of originals. I graduated to a home made one from quality parts which I restocked twice trying to get the lines and grace of an original (which, while I improved each time, still was not as good as a quality one). The guns were dependable however and I fired 5 or 6000 shots through the one that I restocked with minimal problems. I have only changed to a quality semi custom gun because it was 1 lb or more lighter than the one I was shooting. I am guessing that I have shot at least 1500 shots through the most recent one, again with minimal problems

and what US company supplies american made muskets at lower then $1000? seems like a lot of money for a gun. also, how would you have such a musket transported over the border with the US? do you have any idea how tight restrictions are between our borders? I'm sure a american made gun would cost me 2-3 times as much as any other gun on the market for the importation costs.
if you can find me what I'm looking for across the border at a price that's reasonable, my ears are wide open, but if it's gonna cost me 3 months of pay checks, it's not a possibility.

keep your eyes peeled on the EE here on gunnutz and probably more importantly check with the members of the black powder section of your local fish and game club. Check local guns shows. One alternative is to build one yourself from quality components. There are books by Shumway and others on building muzzle loaders.

One of the reasons that american made guns are 2 or 3 times as expensive is because they are better made with better parts. You also have to learn to distinguish between import companies with North American names selling import guns and actual american made guns or perhaps to learn to recognize what makes the difference between quality and mediocre.

Check on what Track of the Wolf will ship to Canada and also watch Ellwood Epps website for good second hand guns provided you can recognize them by name and description
