My buddies and i decided to go do some plinking the other day and i took along my dads sauer sxs 12 gauge because they are both i love with sxs shotguns. Well we had fired about 12 shot no problems. Then i plop in two more shells and close the barrels and out of no where BANG!!! and we all just looked at each other and i looked down and made sure my foot was still there. I was almost 100% sure i didnt have my finger in the trigger guard so to make sure it wasnt me i reloaded put the gun to my shoulder and pointed in a safe direction and each time i closed the barrels the right barrel would fire... Any ideas what could cause this? glad to have my left foot still :D

My Ithaca SKB 20G OU did the same thing and is still out of business until I can afford to fix it, I took it apart and under the sear there is a Spring that pushes it back in place after it is broke open and cocked. Well that spring is broke and as soon as you close it up bang.

I was taught to point the barrels at the ground and bring the stock up to close the action. I've been glad of this habit twice when sxs's went off on their own. It's pretty unnerving! I've seen 2 old mirouku(sp?) sxs's that went off on closing, and one that fired if you pulled the trigger on safe and then released the safety.
Shooting yourself or your buddy with a 12 gauge does'nt bear thinking about. Get it fixed or bend it round a tree!

Is this a common problem with some sxs? Ive been thinking of picking up a cheap sxs for a sawed-off project. Are there certain sxs I should look for, or perhaps look out for?
