Counterfeit or not? Still cool!

I have one of those "Nazi marked" M44's. I'm pretty sure the one I have was done by Hitler himself. Himmler and Goering were holding it for him when he stamped it. That's what my neighbor's cousin, who knew a guy that flew over Germany once, told me. :p

Whether they are fakes or not ( likely are) is neither here nor there to me. I think it is rather neat to own a fake, but it will not be touted as "real" until I find out otherwise. :)
I'd love to have the picture of them doing that!:D:D

Probably fake.
Just shoot the #### out of it and enjoy.

My Russian M44 has a mint bore and it shoots very accurately for a milsurp with decent ammo.

And I shoot it a lot!

One of my all time favorite rifles. It's about as reliable as a firearm could ever get :D

That's the best strategy..

My 13 year old daughter shot me to a draw with it day before. Shooting at grapefruit at ' As far as you can throw them' distance (god I love living in the country ) of 20 - 25 yds, she skunk'd me.
I managed to redeem myself once we switched to ' wood floating on the far end of the dug-out' range...about double the distance.
So...no pic's of targets with holes in them from this member, lol.
Using that Sterling Cross Defence Systems, Steel case copper washed 148 FMJ. Doesn't seem to roar as much as surplus, perhaps a better powder selection. Other than the primer it's identical to Czech surplus.
20 $ per 20 but non corrosive which is cool.
I'd get some SP from the dealer if he has some.
Stay safe

There is so much faked and forged Nazi stuff floating around now from medals to firearms to uniforms that a whole new genre of collecting may spring up, phony Nazi memorabilia. I have read comments on a few American forums by some who say they will no longer even buy German WW2 stuff and fakery is so rampant and lately of such high quality that no one but an expert can tell it from authentic.

I have M44 similar also 1945, it could not be a German capture M44, as only came late in war. Mine does not have a stamp on the receiver, so maybe not fake, don’t see why faker would not stamp receiver, it is a battered, but the stamps are the same as yours so, most probably is fake, I see your rifle does have the receiver stamped. The mismatched bolt may from a 91/30 matched up with the wrong rifle. I have had this discussion before, and had all the answers you are getting. Wish we could get more info if the Germans did ever use M44, most probably will never knowL.

One person commented the Germans only marked German made firearms, not so, they did mark captured and imported, not all, most, as per the Browning posted in this forum. Recently read in Guns & Ammo July 13 about Spanish firearms supplied to the German, and one of the forums sponsors is selling captures of the Star Model 9 unmarked by the Germans, one in the mail, photos soon.

Quote: Being made in a neutral country (Spain), the High Command didn’t see the need to have the typical Waffenmark stamped on the (Star Model 9) guns when they entered service and so these handguns are one of the only examples of a Nazi firearm that doesn’t bear that mark. They do, however, have the code N, Ñ or O stamped on them which denotes a manufacture between 1942 and 1944 and implies (along with some other things which we’ll get to shortly) that they were indeed German at some point.

It isnt that they didnt mark captured arms, they just didnt mark them like that. Waffenamts are only for german manufactured arms. And fire proofing are only for german manufactured arms.

Those are non correct marks placed all willy nilly with no reason.

Also german did not mark every captured arm. They would only be marked if cycled through a depot.

Look at the widespread known german use of the SVT40, so many that they issued their own manual. But unless it went through a depot, it remained as captured.
