...have you clicked out to 1150 yards with it, fired 5 rounds, clicked back to 400 yards, and then gone back to the longer range and held the exact zero? That's what the real deal gives you, and that's why I spend the money.
ardent, I think your confused.... people that buy clones buy them for thier "fun" guns, I like my clones on my 10/22's, AR15's and other fun guns.
for you people that compete and have "serious" man killing use for a gun then sure, go spend the money..... for me, I paid $170 for my leupold clone mk4 3.5x10x40AO Illuminated reticle, for the same thing in a "real" leupold that would be $1400.
I will happily take the $1200 I saved and buy another AR15 thank you very much..... my 10/22 is happy with the clone.
I also have an aimpoint ML2 4MOA clone on my ar15..... again, I am a Loveseat commando, to big to be a chairborne member. the clone works fine for me, has held its zero for the last 600 rnds I have put thru the gun and so..... $150 for the clone, $600 for the real deal..... so I saved $450 to be put into other things.
I am not saying I will never buy the real deal, I have owned 3 aimpoint's, 2 eotechs and a dozen leupold scopes...... I currently have a 3.5x10x40mm VXIII on my hunting rifle and a 1.5x5 SPR scope on my ar15, thats over $2k of glass right there, I consider both these rifles "serious" use guns..... the hunting rifle is obvious and if I ever shot competition that ar15 would be the rifle I would choose.
until a rifle is used for something other then plinking, shooting small game and generally having a good time then I do not think that it needs high dollar glass or electronics...... because frankly the glass is just an unnecesary add-on, open sights on available on most ar15's as a back up option and frankly for day to day killing the open sights are adequate.
I was at corlanes today and saw the daddy of all scopes, a zeiss 6-24x72mm Adjustable Objective Scope, the scope was $5k and the rings where another $400.
I can;t wait for the chinese to knock that baby off
