Counterfeit scopes

Funny 'cause it's true.

In Chinatown 15 years ago I saw "Spaderman" toys for sale.

Laugh2

Been a long time since I've been there. Used to go every weekend. Started losing respect for Chinese after discovering everything they make is absolute krap. Could not trust Chinese medicines unless I watched the pharmacist make them in front of me. After a while I found better substitutes made in countries that care, like Switzerland.

eBay I stopped buying from many years ago. I've bought so many counterfeit things off Amazon... at least the return process is simple.

I've read that some "manufacturers" that source from China end up having their manufacturer sell additional copies of their product to third parties.

We have only bought one fake Leupold...but we suspected it was it was fake because the seller didn't put any included value on the rifle it was mounted on. I immediately confirmed it was fake and took it off the rifle and one of our staff members took it for use on a rimfire build. It bothered me giving a fake scope away but we made sure the staff member understood what it was and would not sell it. Phil.

I can't believe anyone would try buying a scope, furniture, or a hooker through craigslist.

While I've never bought a scope from CL, or a hooker period (although tried to buy a friend one once...), I have bought a fair bit of furniture from CL. Hell, the chair I am sitting on right now came from there. So did my TV stand. Multiple dressers, bookshelves, etc.

OP, I think you'd be fine. Those scopes aren't worth enough to bother counterfeiting IMO. Even if it IS counterfeit, if its $50 who cares if its a real Barska or a fake one? The quality on the fake can't be much worse than the real deal! lol

There are so many fake Zeiss scopes on eBay it is hard to see a page without one. The obvious error is that the logo on them is a poor imitation of the real Zeiss logo. Despite this, they seem to sell every day. We have to be careful before buying scopes

Amazon sells alot of fake products as well. I haven't seen conterfeit rifle optics, but I"ve bought numerous other small electronics and parts that are knock offs. It's so prevelant that I have to assume Amazon is either complicit or at the very least turns a blind eye to it.
The best advice I've seen here is to buy from a local gun shop. You get expertise from someone who has to stand behind their product. I"m headed to Al Flahertys tomorrow for a father's day gift to me...
