Just wanted to do a little write up on my latest purchases, and give a nod to Ruger, and their beutiful Rimfire Pistols.

Been wanting these guys for awhile, and have started shooting alot of .22lr rifles these days, so figured these would get me back into handgun shooting. I kinda left handguns about a year ago, and dumped my entire collection other than a Tokarev, and a G22, so these are a nice change of pace.

I give you, my new Ruger Single 10 and Ruger MKIII Hunter.....

Got the MKIII Hunter from Delselins as these are apparently few and far between right now, and have been discontinued by Ruger, so snapped it up while I could. Total to my door was about $600, and I was not disappointed in the slightest. The gun is a work of art, and my hesitations about the sights were quickly put to rest. Functioned 100 percent with Federal Blue box, Winchester Xpert HV, and even CCI Standard Velocity. Accuracy initially was not what I hoped but after getting used to the sights I think this gun is the most accurate pistol I have ever shot. All around a bargain for what I paid, and I can't say enough good about the Ruger MKIII series. This is my second, the first being a 22/45, and both are fantastic guns, with this one being just a little nicer, well alot nicer I guess. ;)

The Single 10 I bought off the EE NIB for $525 to my door, which I thought was a pretty good deal. I have always had a thing for cowboy guns, and previously owned a Vaquero in .357, so I was looking forward to this guy, and had my eye on either one of these or a Single Six for some time. I chose this guy for the short barrel and figured 10 rounds was more fun than 6. The sights again threw me for a loop, as I have never used any hi viz sights before this, and intially groups suffered. I went back to just lining up the posts and kinda ignoring the fibre optic inserts, and that definitely helped. I haven't put too many rounds through this guy yet, but can't wait to get back out. Interestingly enough the Winchester Xpert didn't seat well in the chambers, and needed some extra force to seat them flush as to not bind the cylinder. The CCI SV, and Federal Blue Box was just fine though, and groups were pretty good at the 8-10 yards I was shooting at. Again, the rugged reliability, and great workmanship in these guns is over and above what the price would indicate.

All around, bang for your buck, it is really hard to beat Ruger for the money in any category Rifle, or Handgun, and when we are talking about rimfire pistols they really do have the market cornered.

Now I just have to wait on the Ruger SP101's to show up so I can get a matching pair in .22lr, and .357 mag. ;)

I think this may be the start of a collection of sorts. More Stainless Steel Ruger Pistols are gonna be in my future thats for sure!

The Single Ten is one of the coolest guns in current production. I don't own one yet, but when I hit the range if one of my shooting friends is there with it, I'm constantly borrowing it. Someday I'll have to stop leeching off him I guess.

Congrats on two superb purchases.

You got a damn good deal on the Single Ten. I paid a bit more at my LGS, but it's a work of art, and worth the money. I have had the same problem with the Winchester. I think I throw out every third round, cause I can't fit them in. It's a shame they discontinued the Mark III Hunter. I wish I had snatched up the one I was handling a while back. I need a .22 semi-auto.

Very nice! Great pictures. Sorry to dampen your enthusiasm, but wait until you try to take down and clean the MK III. Then let us know your opinion of Ruger. I won't buy another of their pistols, though the revolvers will see my cash (if Proline ever delivers my SP101). Given the SIG, CZ, Walther, Beretta, and half a dozen others, the Ruger automatic pistol is absolutely awful to field strip and service.

Ditto the Browning Buckmark. I'm sure we could start a whole thread on guns people hate to take apart and clean. I'll bet Ruger's autos top the list.

Ruger MK3's are only difficult to take down if you can't follow simple directions...

It's about a 3 min procedure. I really don't know why this is always brought up.

It's only a pain the first few times because everything is so tight.

Still well worth it IMHO, and judging from my last 22/45 these things don't need to be cleaned very often anyways.

I bought the Ruger Mark III Hunter, Semi-Auto, with the 4.5" Bull Barrel, with the Crimson Trace Laser Grip. It is a fantastic pistol. Very EASY to take down once you get the hand of it. I remember trying for an hour or more when I first tried, now I can do it in my sleep. I would not sell this Pistol for anything. It is my favorite. I shoot 10 rounds out of it, compared to only out one of all my others combined when compared to this Ruger. I also had the 6.5" Barrel one, but I sold it here and I could not believe how fast it went. I'm sorry I sold it now, as I miss that Target Pistol.

I've heard this rumour before, but they are still listed on their site, even have a new "Target Laminate" Hunter.

If you're stripping one down, there are excellent videos on YouTube.

I recently bought a late 1960's production 3 screw Super Single Six with the spare 22mag cylinder. The darn thing is in like-new condition and is a heck of a pistol. Yes, Ruger rimfires are nice. I must admit though, I prefer a Single Six over the Single 10. I can't wrap my head around a revolver with fibre optics sights like what the Single 10 has. For ME it just doesn't seem/look right! Still, nice pair of Rugers you got there melhtovaara..:). Rimfire handguns are my favorite choice lately. They're just so much fun to shoot. Enjoy the new Rugers and thanks for sharing the story!

I must agree that ruger makes awesome rimfires! The collection keeps growing! Lol
