Next Switzers auction has a HK P7M8 and an unfired Nickle Python with box and papers. I'll be interested to see what they bring.

The HK doesn't have a photo of the case open and the description doesn't mention the tools so they are probably missing.

The HK looks like it is actually a standard P7, not an M8 but still the last P7 went for big bucks so will be interesting to watch

I don't see the heel release but that may just be the angle of the photo. I also don't see a mag release up by the trigger guard either now that i look closely so you may well be right.

Edit

I just went and dug my P7 PSP out of the safe. The heel mag release is flush with the butt. Looking at mine I'd say this is a P7 PSP and not a M8.

I also don't see a heat shield on the auction gun.

The P7 PSP (which this one is) also has a smaller trigger guard. The heel mag release is not a rotating “clip” style release like the Ruger .22 but instead more like a button that you push in—I like it more that I thought I would.

This one looks to be in pretty good shape—nice and black without the plum colour you sometimes see, and with only a bit of wear on the slide’s corners. It’ll be interesting to see what it goes for.

I actually like the mag release on the PSP. I admit that my initial impression of the release system was not good, but that was an inexperienced and uneducated one. If you are using the gun where speed of mag change is an issue, then yes, the M8 will be a bit faster, as you can release and grab another mag at the same time. The PSP requires you to use two hands to release the mag. Being that I don't compete with a P7, my life is not dependent on it, and I don't let my mags hit the ground with any P7's, it's not any faster at all because I still grab the mag anyway. I would argue that the heel system is more reliable and less likely to fail. I don't push it like a button. I just grab the whole butt of the gun with my thumb on the button, and my fingers on the front of the mag extension, I pull it out in one continuous motion. No mag release button to try and find or hit by accident. Quite a nice system if you ask me. If I am taking a P7 to the range, it's the PSP that is going.
Auction is at $1900+15%=$2185 Happy biding.

I can't say I have much of a preference either way. Never had issues with heel releases - like them on the 210 and P9s. The purist in me likes the original P7 the most, but I also appreciate the features on the M8.

I sent the auction an email pointing out that the photos looked to be of a PSP and asking them to confirm what model was being sold. They didn't answer me but I see the description has been changed to "HK P7 PSP"
