I recently read on the forum that your parent(s) can be your reference on your RPAL application, what about your spouse ?

I've read on dealers websites about conversion kits for hand guns to convert to .22lr my question is; are there conversion kits to go the other way from a .22 to say a .38 or ??? ?

Sorry if these questions seem stupid but I'm new.

yes your parents can be your reference. as far as i remember your spouse can not be.

yes there are pistols that you can change calibers with. some glocks can switch between 9 and 22. or 9 and 45 im sure there are some that can change between .22 and 38 but i have not heard of them. there are also plenty of 1911 type pistols that you can buy new barrels and change cals on. glock was just the first that popped into my head.

Thanks for your response. Strange that your parents can be but the wife can't yet the wife is more likely to be truthful since she lives with you and if you were to go "postal" she's more likely to be the victim than your parents.

So a .22 can be converted to a 9mm.....Hmmm interesting......The sites I've visited made it sound like you could only go down in calibre not up and since I don't want to start out with a 9mm I was planning on renting a .22 until I felt ready for a 9mm. Based on this new info I'll look into buying a .22 that later can be converted to a 9mm.

Your wife also has to sign off as well as your references.

Other than the Sig, there are not many .22's that can be converted up in caliber. There are no Glocks in .22lr. There are aftermarket kits to covert some of them down to it though.

Yeah I was hoping she could do both, kill 2 birds with one stone, oh well no biggie.

What model .22 "Sig" are you refering to ? The Sig's look like a quality gun so I'd definetly be interested in something like that.

Thanks for the links. A little more pricey than I had hoped though. From what I've seen that's very close to the price of buying ie: a Sig Mosquito or Ruger .22 AND a CZ 75B or Glock 17 , S&W M&P, etc, in a 9mm. I know you could make the arguement that it's apples and oranges but........Anyway, I'm still in the very early stages of my hobby and appreciate any info and will consider all options. For right now my goal is to get a quality .22 and next year step up to a 9mm if I can get a conversion kit for the .22 great but if it's gonna cost me close to the same in the end to buy another gun of the same or better quality then I'd have to lean towards the second gun if for no other reason as to not wear the first one as much as if it were my sole gun.
