I am in the process of joining a local gun club and will be working towards a PAL. If I take Canadian Restricted Firearms Safety Course, is this the only course I need to do for the PAL or do I also need an FAC and a Canadian Non-Restricted Firearms Safety Course?

Thanks

The FAC is the old system that was replaced by the current licencing system.

In order to get your RPAL, you first need to take the PAL course (or just challange the exams) and pass with a minimum of 80% on both the written exam and the practical exam. After that, you then go for your RPAL, again needing 80% on both exams.

You will then need to undergo the gun clubs safety course, and have a probationary period where you will do up to 12 supervised shoots (# depends on the individual club) before becoming a full member.

There are two elements, both of which you must pass, a practical test and a multiple-guess test.

Is the exam written or multiple choice in Ontario?

Each of the written exams (PAL and RPAL) is 50 questions of multiple choice and true & false and are standard across the country.

Then there is the practical exams where you will handle the firearms and do what the examiner asks you to do such as go through the loading and unloading procedures (using dummy rounds of course), preparing the firearm for storage, preparing the firearm for transport ect.

I just did my PAL yesterday, and I would definatly recomend taking the course. It's not just about getting the propor permits. It's about learning all the propor procedre when using firearms. I thought about challenging the exam, but am greatful for taking the course

I am taking my PAL course and exam May 23 & 24. There is an RPAL course coming up in the middle of June that I will be enrolling in. Then I guess it is a matter of sitting back waiting on the Government who should all be on holidays by then.
