Wear rubber boots , don't walk through high bushes , don't ever lay your pack on the ground. Basicly don't touch anything in around where your hunting.
I always forget to wear rubber gloves, so I dry wash my hands with pine branches far from where the action is.
If setting up a stand , remove all the branches you cut to improve your shot taking ,take climbing away from the site (50 or so meters)
When returning to hunt, never leave sent on the lower tree steps , by following earlier comments.
As for scent products , never use 'em , but will hunt down tarsal glands, interdigital glands , and even have a bag handy should I run across some fresh doe pee on the snow in an area I'm passing through. And place it at my stand site in a scrape.
And if I run across a buddy that shot a deer , there is a buffet of scent items for the taking.

If you follow the above, there is no need to get carried away with yourself being scent free,as you will be up in a tree , or down wind of that special hot spot.
The key is don't get to handy the bedding area(unless your hunting a difficult buck) and change locations if things are not working out, so the deer don't pattern your movements.
A topo/areal photo is your best tool, followed by actual scouting.
