Covering up engraver marks

I'VE GOT IT!

Go to Wikipedia and create a page for Cecil Fielding. Make it AWESOME. Born to famous parents. Raised by wolves. Fought in all 3 world wars. Saved a kitten once... you know the drill. Be sure to include a shopped photo of Cecil holding the gun, with his foot on a recently taken lion/mammoth/hitler.

Then put up the celebrity shotgun on the EE for TEN TIMES what you paid for it, with a link to the wiki!

You're welcome.

That's a real solution right there. Well played, sir. :)

Cecil Fielding for Prime Minister! He can juggle fire!

This thread reminded me that many years ago I bought a sporterized M-S 6.5x54 off a guy here. The stock is tolerable (an old Fajen, I think) but the receiver metal was engraved and nickelled. Not absolutely hideous but I'd love to strip it down and refinish it. The amount of work involved, though, has kept the old girl in a dark corner for ages. It had also been rebarrelled (presumably the military barrel was shot out) but with a slower twist that will only stabilize 140gr bullets. I'm kicking myself because a few years later I could have got a NOS floorplate and bolt handle from Springfield Sporters for a reasonable price and missed tha chance. :(

Ok I get its not a beauty but its only a 870 lets place a value and what its worth to make it right and I'm sure it won't look right when done compared to new . sell it get a new gun or just live with Cecil and go hunting I like guns with character you never hunt alone with a friend like Cecil

Engrave the engraving.
Like some folks do with tattooes.
Re-tattew'titt.

Sort awff like an elaborate scroll u sea awn fancy schmancy sxs's and o/u's.

Some interesting ideas. Personally I like some.

If it was me I would buy a different receiver. Then try doing the sanding, filling, Painting on the bubba'd receiver. Sell the "fixed" receiver with disclosure. Probably get what you paid for the replacement receiver, all you would be out is your time.

If it was mine I would simply file down the high spots, jb weld the engraving, wet sand it smooth and cerakote it.
