Covert PPK 380 to restricted

I came across a PPK stainless 380 ACP. Good condition, has original box and 2 mags. They are asking $550. Is this a good pirce? Just wondering how much $ I could expect to pay out to have it converted to Restricted (I read ellwood epps could do it). What much might it be worth when complete, as in could I get my $ back out of it if I decide to sell it one day?

Seems like a reasonable price if in the condition you describe. When all is said and done you likely won't make any money value wise, but shouldn't lose either. Would be a fun range toy for us non 12x holders!
 
Nice thing is you just need an extended barrel, not a rechambering to .30 Reid. Probably $200-250 to do the conversion based on my recent inquiries. Probably not a huge profit in it for you, but fun to do nonetheless...
 
On the PPk, the barrel sticks out a long way, they look seriously ugly. PP's don't look quite so bad. PPK in a .380 is not the most fun to shoot, just watch out for hammer and slide bite. The paperwork can take several months to go thru
 
Just throwing it out there, a Makarov is basically a copy of a PP. The Baikal Makarov already has the restricted length barrel, and is available in 380 or 9mm mak. And costs around $400 new. I've had several Makarovs, they are 100% reliable, and very accurate.
 
You better check with Elwood first. Sure they can do it, but you better ask if they have a barrel or if they can get one before you buy, if that is your intent.
 
You'd also need to have someone with a 12-6 purchase the gun for you in the first place and take on all the work of getting it modified and the reg status changed and finally transfer it to your name. That's a lot of putzing around for someone. So they will need to be a pretty good friend.

I once photoshopped what a PPK would look like with a restricted length barrel. It was FAR from pretty and I finally realized I would not be happy with the resulting Pinocchio looking beast. It was on an old computer that blew up on me so I don't have it any longer. But I'd suggest you do much the same thing and look at it carefully and see if you can live with the looks.

Unobtainium except via EE. None are coming in because of the Russian sanctions unless somethings changed

Threading would be justifiable, even though I usually mock mock suppressors.

Edit: I do have a 9x18mm Makarov I don't use.

Emailed EEPs. They said they would do it and quoted me a price. Traveled to the gun shop that has the pistol in stock. They said they did have it there in a safe (all their restricteds are behind glass) but would not show me because I do not have my prohib status. Apparently the CFO has said they cannot display prohibs or show them to anyone without the proper licence, even with the proper licence they can not show it unless they are in a different room away from the public (ie; a separate office). They would however send it to EPPs if i decided to buy it but I could only see pictures of it until it was made restricted. I haven't decided if I will go through with it as of yet as it's a bit pricey and they won't even let me handle or have a glimps of it. To get the whole project finished would end up costing between $950 - 1000.

Meah, but a Mack in 380 for $375
 
Take $599 for the Epps converted gun. Subtract the price of conversion from that. That's how much the .380 PPK should be selling for to make sense.

The sad sad realities of prohib pricing.

BTW...Kudos to Epps for offering this service to prohib owners! A great service for the gun community.
 
Thing is, that whoever originally paid to have the ppk converted paid a lot more than that for the conversion. You will never get your money out of it. Now I would be in the market for a ppk in .380 to go with my PP, and I have 12/6 (that's a hint)
 
I paid to have a pistol converted, it was worth it for me, but total cost after conversion was $400 as it was a $250 old school pocket pistol.

No way I would have paid $1000 for it, end of the day they are just toys or collectables maybe.

I wanted a PPK too, but I bought a Makarov instead lol.
