Covert PPK 380 to restricted

... but would not show me because I do not have my prohib status. Apparently the CFO has said they cannot display prohibs or show them to anyone without the proper licence, even with the proper licence they can not show it unless they are in a different room away from the public (ie; a separate office). They would however send it to EPPs if i decided to buy it but I could only see pictures of it until it was made restricted. I haven't decided if I will go through with it as of yet as it's a bit pricey and they won't even let me handle or have a glimps of it.

So much stupid. Makes me want to puke!

Well, I wont be going through with it. Always wanted one but not being able to view it was a deal breaker for me, and I agree with most of you, it's just too much investment for what it is.

I can't believe they could not let you see the gun, not play with it , that is Local CFO crap

Guy at the corner store said he legally cant show me or tell me what tobacco products he has in stock. I have to ask him if he has something and then he can tell me "yes or no" if he has it or not. Then he cant show it to me until I buy it... this came about bc I asked him what cigars he sells. His answer "sorry I legally cant tell you or show you" caught me by surprise. Quite the nanny state country we live in these days.

Quite ridiculous for sure. I can see gun stores not wanting to waste time showing prohibited to someone that can't buy anyway. But if you were wanting to convert it that should be a pretty good reason to see it.

We are getting buried in these stupid nanny state rules, like we are a bunch of infants.

The PPK in 380 is not a nice gun to shoot. Even the 32 has a lot more recoil than one would expect.

+1, they're snappy little bugger... but mind you, not as bad as a 357 derringer.

EDJ, depending how much $ you want to trow at this project. You could try to make it look like the PP Sport

Slap on a set of "target" grips from Marschalko Gusztav... and you'd have one odd-if-not-interesting pistol ;)

I had a PP converted to restricted by Epps. It cost 300$ + tax. I bought a prohibited PP in 380, had it shipped by the store to Epps directly. The conversion took 6 months to complete including verification and transfer.

OP you alone can decide whether it's worth it or not. Everything cannot be valued in cash.

Ganderite is absolutely correct, the PP or PPk are not pleasant to shoot in 380. I have shot both in 32ACP as well, they feel much better. I would like to shoot one in 30 Reid I imagine would be slightly more pleasant than the 32ACP.

What is an absolute joy to shoot is a PP in 22LR. If you find one, buy it.

Emailed EEPs. They said they would do it and quoted me a price. Traveled to the gun shop that has the pistol in stock. They said they did have it there in a safe (all their restricteds are behind glass) but would not show me because I do not have my prohib status. To get the whole project finished would end up costing between $950 - 1000.

Can't display a prohibs or show you!? That sounds like bs. Lots of fun shops have prohibs in the cabinets. Also no reason to not be able to handle it in person

I know Epp's won't let you handle one, and their handguns aren't on display, you have to ask to see one and they ask for your pal before they even let you handle a restricted.

On the PPk, the barrel sticks out a long way, they look seriously ugly. PP's don't look quite so bad. PPK in a .380 is not the most fun to shoot, just watch out for hammer and slide bite. The paperwork can take several months to go thru

Just a side note in case anyone is interested. If you curl your right thumb as if you are trying to point it down at the ground, similar to a thumbs down revolver grip, it often moves enough of the web of your hand out of the way of the slide to prevent bite on a PP or PPK.

I didn't come up with that I read it online but I tried it and it works.

I was allowed to handle the Walther PP's I bought. At two different stores not very far from me. This is in Ontario too, so don't know why the different regulations.

Epps is supposedly " too close to a highway" according to the CFO that's why the separate area where restricteds are kept.

I heard something along that line too. An employee also told me that even though they know me by name they still have to ask for a PAL (and they do every time) because there are about 6 cameras covering the counter, and if ever there is an incident, the camera's will get reviewed, and both Epp;s and the employee would have their A$$es handed to them if it shows they aren't asking to see it. It's no different than the liquor store. I just saw a sign that if you are in the liquor store with your kid. They aren't even allowed to push the damn cart if there is liquor in it and they are under 19. It's a matter of them covering their butts, and keeping their business licence, so don't hate on the gun store

I had this done too. They did a great job on the conversion, it's one of my favorite that I own.
Only complaint is that it took 5 months to do, considering they notified me that the barrel was complete and test fired after the 3 weeks... Just sat and waited to be blued for 4+ months

I usually shoot with gloves and that makes the PP considerably more comfortable to shoot.
I also have a restricted FN-Browning model 1910 in .380 that is a nightmare to shoot without gloves on.
