Covid-19 milsurp prices skyrocketing? Will they hold after the virus diminishes

Indeed, how much is that special Beanie bear that people paid $100 for back in 1998 worth today?

..or baseball cards.

However there is a difference between collectables and a product that was fabricated as a collectable from the get go. One should always be suspicious when you are buying a new in the wrap product that is already labelled "collectable".

Dutch Tulip mania (if you don't haven't heard about it, its a good read).

Collectible markets are hard to predict. It's basically a betting game (you "bet" you can guess the models will be desirable in the future). With collectibles, you need to predict what the next generations will cherish and pay a premium for. Nothing is guaranteed. And don't be surprised when you try and "cash out" and nobody wants your overpriced junk.

Looking on your Feedback score, I see that you really stay aside from "overpriced junk".

The results at the auction referenced above just confirms my belief that there are distinct "market values" for specific models at auctions, commercial sellers, and EE sales/gunshow sales. Three SVT 40 refurbs sold at $1100, $1100 and $1500. This is nothing new as for the last 2 or 3 years I've noticed SVTs going at auction for much higher dollars than I could get for similar guns at the Calgary Spring show or here on the EE. The really funny thing is that on auction you get very limited pictures and info whereas most EE sellers will respond well to questions and at a show you can give it a real close look. Sort of baffling.

I've seen the 1200$ SKS ad. If someone is dumb enough to buy it at this price...

I think he was joking around that's why it was taken down quickly .
I believe when he said " I know what I got" and " willing to trade for toilet paper" that was the gove away :p. But either way some people are serious about a $1000 gun which is the scary part

Some dude had a chinese sks on gun post for 800. I informed him that cabelas was selling them for 219. He laughed and told me its for all the idiots panicking. I wouldn't be surprised if it sold.

Yep.... I dont get why people wouldn't just buy it directly from cabellas like ? The sales forum ####### is kinda low profile so you'd think these folks would search sales stores first but whatever

So lately on ####### ( even on here once or twice ) I've seen some old BASIC ( meaning nothing fancy, scratches and refurbished mix match serial #'s) milsurps ex. Russian/chinese sks, mosin m91/30, tokarev tt, k98, lee enflied jungle carbine .
within the last 30 days they have DOUBLED in market price??
Today on ####### a bare bones chinese sks is $600 and sold!!
So does that mean the better quality Russians are worth $600+ now
Mosins are hitting $500-600
Yugo kr98 hitting $900-$1000
Tokarev tt-33 - $450-500
Svt40- $1000

What I dont get is thats the used market prices ............. the stores like bullseye, g4c, wolverine supplies, ellwood eps, etc. Still sell these guns for the normal price ( maybe +10-15% due to $ value) but not doubled. Chinese sks at bullseye still are $279 mosins still $399 tokarev still $299

Why dont people buy from stores and stop this influx in used market prices ?? I personally feel more confident buying firearms from a store than in person...
Once this virus cools off are these market prices going to readjust or maintain now that there selling at higher prices ?

I havent been in the sport long enough to see the results of world wide issues and how firearms adjust like the 2008 recession or other issues in last 20 years .....

List em high and expect a haggle. You aren't seeing the discussions behind the scenes
