For our camp there will be no change wrt the number of guys coming in, at least no change due to Covid.

I was wondering if there will be more people in the bush, wanting to escape the nightmare of city life, or less because of the fear the media spin has instilled in the populace?

Thoughts?

I'd imagine food scarcity will scare more people into the bush than the media scares away. If not this year than next, for sure.

I haven't been out in two years. Life's changed a lot. But I was hoping to make it happen long before CoVid.

Maybe you guys can help me out. I was going to do my first hunt in the Iroquois Falls area. I cant find any info about possible caliber restrictions or any other by-laws in regards to the firearms use and hunting in the area. Was calling by-law department at city hall but so far no response. I`m wondering if due to Covid they trying to limit amount of people traveling up north or is it just that they will take their time to respond to any messages?. Any thoughts or ideas would help me out. Thanks

By-laws would just cover laws in the city/town. I'm sure all calibers are restricted in town:rolleyes:. The On. hunting regs will show you any restrictions in northern ON .

I’ve been out regularly since April for spring bear and then in August when the hare season opened and there’s noticeably less out of towners on the back roads, only run into others that aren’t locals in any numbers last weekend.

I expect that some hunt camps may have reduced numbers. Folks might want to avoid crowded bunkhouses, etc.

;)Wonder how the locals in the more sparsely populated covid free areas are going to feel about diseased city dwellers flooding in.;)

Many depend on the tourist buck, so it's a trade off.

seeing loads of hunters on the highways passing thru my town.
The woods around here are literally crawling with hunting rigs too.
on the flipside.... my favorite deer hunting area a few hours away was so quiet from a lack of hunters it was quite refreshing LOL

Around here it’s a non issue, nobody seems to have fallen for the fear mongering. Lots of people in my small town work away in camp and have been ever since the first lockdown. The plague hasn’t ripped through town killing everyone, so I expect the tourist pass through dollars are welcome as it always has been for local businesses.

I've had the complete opposite experience this year. My cottage is on Manitoulin Island and at one time, "locals" were even putting up road blocks, etc, but that's for another thread. Most businesses would welcome hunters this fall, not sure about many of the permanent residents though. My dad and I hunt at home but the camp up there on the property next to us usually has between 8 and 12 guys, all 70+ and it sounds like they're all going. There has been noticeably less hunters in my area at home the past few years, I don't think covid will have an effect on numbers one way or another here at this point.

We went for a drive to meet some old friends at my old hunt camp on Friday. Roads were choked with cars. Folks taking any excuse to exit the city.

Thankfully, I am a lover of back roads.

My area, Covid 19 is a non-issue, but the locals are very wary of outsiders.

I'm now thinking the gun hunt will be fairly normal to a bit more crowded.

Some of those camps where the guys are pretty much spoonin to sleep in them may be a tad light.

I noticed for the first time I can remember last spring/summer, there seemed to be a small but noticeable upswing in first time hunters seeking advice for small game hunting here in our hunting forum.
Particularly rabbit hunting.

Most often it's a novice deer turkey or duck hunter seeking good information. And it's more often a late August/September hot topic.

My area has been choked with people trying to escape the city all summer. I expect there will be quite a few hunters out! I do know of at least one Moose camp that opted out this year though.

There seemed to be lots of people running around today with atv's on their trailers and trucks so it doesn't look any different. Some of the bigger camps might be different this year with the 10 people rule in Ontario, one place I know of has 24 guys so I'm not sure how that will play out but it might be a quieter year in some places.

My camp group will be smaller this year, no tags for five years running. I don’t go in for a calf hunt and I haven’t been able to get away for three years now, sold my atv last fall due to so little use. Having small kids and a busy job makes doing things on my own almost impossible. Covid hasn’t changed much for me, maybe next year?
