hey there, Im running the idea through my head of getting some stuff for cowboy action shooting, was looking for input:

so far heres what I have in mind:
2x ruger blackhawks 45lc/45acp pistols since we need two right?

what kind of shotguns and lever action rifles are most using?

yes, two revolvers and those are fine.

A 1873 uberti in 45 Colt would be your best bet. Make sure she holds 10 rounds. If on a budget, give a Puma 92 in 45 a try.

A hammerless stoeger side X side coach gun works gread, there are some hammered guns out there. Or a model 1897 pump, 1887 lever, or the model 1912 is also acceptable too I think after Jan 2013.

I have a pump lightning rifle 45 Colt for Wild Bunch and an 1873 for traditional cowboy.

Much obliged. Any idea as to why the limitation?

Wild Bunch is trying to expand and move away from CAS matches an stand on its own and the amount of spare parts for the Win M97 is getting smaller and smaller. New shooters are going to have an increasingly difficult to buy older guns. The M12 was also used in the movie and 2,000,000 of them were made. Looking forward to taking my M12 to Winter Range next February!

As Garand said, and see also Tex's article in the latest Cowboy Chronicle, they're trying to create a game that's substantially different than CAS. Power factor, different guns, Smaller targets, longer differences, non-comstock shotgun targets, more rounds for shotgun and 1911, more knockdowns for all the guns, etc. As they say, it's not CAS with a 1911. So it's an arbitrary decision which will have no effect on SASS approved CAS. (Notice that "SASS approved" I threw in there)

My suggestion would bve to attend a few local CAS matches and try out some guns. Everyone in our club is more than willing to help new shooters and trying guns to see what you like/works for you best.

Before you spend any money, go to the SASS website http: //www.sassnet.com/ download the Shooters manual and find out which firearms are allowed in the various categories.

Curious, and working from memory, but......

The side by side shotguns are not allowed to have extractors are they?

If that's the case, do modern SxS's all come with extractors? Can they be, or do they need to be removed?? Is there certain models that come without them?

I don't know any of those details. I've never owned a SxS but I am also thinking of getting set up for CAS. Learning as I go.

SxS can have extractors but not ejectors.

ok i have a good assorment of guns... but the problem is I cannot find them.. checked out both milarm and P and D, they have NOTHING, between both stores there was a 45lc mares leg and a 2 grand+ 357 lever action, and nothing in the way of shotguns.

although that 45lc way actually work if i get some lead and cast bullets, but the mares leg is too short, which sucks, and i guess the norinco coach gun is also too short, says no shorter then 16" and 18" respectively on sass site

anyone have a good source to buy the lever actions or old school shottys or proper legnth?

pistols have been easier to find, but I would also appreciate a good link for getting a nice cowboy belt/holster

Revolver and rifle ammunition may not be jacketed, semi-jacketed, plated, gas checked, or copper washed. It must be all lead. Molydisulfide coated bullets or equivalent are acceptable

quoted from sass site...

didnt know that...

Sounds like lots of specific rules. Ammo, guns, bloomers....

You'd think someone would just put together a kit with everything in it.

Pay $400 get two pistols, rifle, shotgun, and a great hat. All ready to go.

my favorite rule is the rule you all have to have an alias one...

im thinking, crazy legs mcgee
or patches o'houlahan

or easysauce if its not taken

I've been working on the same thing... I finally got frustrated trying to peice a set together that on the recommendation of a local gun shop I'm going to build a complete set all at once and I'm going all Uberti since going with one manufacture the shop is going to try and get me an extra deal.

2x Uberti Cattleman 45LC
1873 Uberti Short Rifle Lever 45LC
Stoger SxS coach

I've got a few places working on getting me a quote. Still waiting.. just called around the other day.

Also Easy,

if you check threads i've started you'll see I also started a link very similar to yours and some GREAT feed back and info was posted up there as well.
