In our club, the rules for the 3 gun cowboy action shoot are that you've got to have a 2 barrel shotgun, single action revolver and a lever rifle in a pistol caliber. The question is - can I use a Beretta O/U trap shotgun? It has 2 barrels. Or do I necessarily have to have a coach gun type shotgun?

Most clubs use SASS rules- you can check what is legal on the internet at the SASS site.

If you don't have the right shot gun, don't panic, cowboys are friendly, and most likely someone will lend you a gun to try it if you bring your own ammo (has to be lead only).

No likely about it. You'll be offered numerous guns to use if you show up and ask. THe cowboy shooters are the friendliest lot I've seen.

Also it's more of a 4 gun event since you need TWO six shooters to complete the stages.

Yes, and some of us like SASS Wild Bunch with our 1911's in 45 ACP. They let me use my 870 until my 1897 finally shows up, hopefully February. I also shoot the 4 gun way too with a side by each.

Try to find a Norinco Coach Gun with external hammers. They're inexpensive, work well, (after I polished the chambers), and are pretty sturdy.
I find mine has worked well for a few seasons of CAS and even upland bird hunting, (leaving my Browning BSS to languish at home! LOL)
