Cowboy action duds.

So I have spent some money lately getting together the guns for this. I still have a ways to go and no more cash:(

I was wondering about holsters for rugers. Is a cross draw allowed in CAS?

I can't get together the cash for a custom setup so I was looking at Cabelas leather. I have participated in other shooting disciplines and have never had the best gear but I had a great time anyway. I don't shoot well even with the best gear so I don't care how I look. Just want to have enough gear to get going.

Regarding Cross Draw, what Chuck said, plus the gun cannot cant more that 20 degree, meaning you cannot have it sitting horizontal on your belt. Vertical is fine but no more that 20 off center.

Doc Rowlands in NB is the best for cheap but good gun leather. Left and right holsters and cross draws are around $30.00 each (only available in brown). He also has gun belts and shotgun slides for very good prices (brown). This stuff is also available from the manufacturer in the US in black but at about a 50% premium to get it landed, brokers and exchanged etc.. He is a good resource for this stuff although his gun pricing is a bit high.

I ordered a rig Right strong side and a Right handed cross draw. I figure learning the dance won't be as hard as learning to shoot left handed Hell I need to learn to shoot with my right hand first!!!:p
I agree with the fact that you don't need to look good to shoot good. But if you have to shoot bad may as well look good doing it.:D:D
But seriously real cowboys of old weren't the bestest dressed dudes. So get your guns get the leather that works for you garb a plain pair of Levis some old boots and a cheap cowboy hat get to the club and have yourself a ball this is foremost about fun and games everything else is not important.

Keep in mind, for a beginning cowboy shooter, it is very easy to get a stage or match DQ using a crossdraw if you don't pay attention or try to beat the clock carelessly!

True, very true. That is why it is best to practice cross draw in a non competitive setting first if you can. Some clubs offer cowboy practice too, and that is the best place to try it. A lot of ranges out side of cowboy time even if holsters are generally allowed can have a fit to see you using a cross draw. My advice would be to practice sans ammo at home over and over again. One of the biggest problems with new people to cross draw is the tendency to sweep ones own self with the gun (like your left hand/arm for example being in the way) which can still lead to a stage DQ usually and a match DQ for serious or repeat offenses. But it is to have fun so just practice and you will be fine.

I got my rig today and I`m real pleased. It came via Canada Post with no issue of any kind. The rig was custom made by George Livingston in Pensylvannia. He was a real gentleman to deal with and produced something that I will be very proud of for a long time to come.
I had said I would post pics when it got here. I took one with my blackberry it`s not too bad.:D:D:D

Very nice looking and a unique rig. I really like the silver leaves it dresses it up and adds a nice touch. All it needs now is a couple SS Ruger NV's to finish it off. Nice moose as well.

Hey Chuck!
That moose was last September just about 600lbs, young bull, tasty. Shot it with a Rem 700BDL .270, 1st shot, 65 yards in the lungs, 2nd shot, 60 yards, thru the heart and the last shot, 50 yards, right below the right ear.

Hey thats not a CAS gun:p Its a fine gun though.

This thread originally started talking about CAS duds, so I'll bring it back to that train of thought by addin' my worth! Over the years I've been doing this, I and my son have had real good luck with Wild West Mercantile. :D While it is in the States, their prices for value are great, especially now with the $ at near par.

Regards
