Hello,

I noticed that most CAS shooters will have the Rossi 92, Winchesters or Uberti 73s lever actions.
Does anyone shoot the Lightning pump actions? Why not?

Thanks:)

OK

The 1873 model is most common as it is very reliable and has lots of aftermarket and accepted modifications to make them very fast.

Some people use the Lightnings. The Uberti ones are apparently very finicky on ammo and take a lot of time to get working correctly. The Pedersoli ones seem to be more forgiving. The Lightning was very common in 44-40 and 38-40. A lot of people who buy new lightnings buy them in 45 Colt or 38. This is where the problem lies with the Uberti since it is an exact copy, and 45 Colt and 38 special/357 were not original offerings in the rifle, which is why it seems to be time consuming to get them to run right, and usually requires hand loading. If I was going to get one (and I am), it would be the Pedersoli. I would use one for Wildbunch, so my rifle and shotgun would both be pumps.

When are you coming out to a match? People will lend you some guns, just bring some factory lead 45 Colt or 38.

I have seen a couple of shooters use a pump rifle at one or two matches, before they went back to their lever guns. As mentioned they are very finicky on ammo. Stay with a good lever gun.

Thanks Tuco, and if I would buy one it would be the Pedersoli...I already have my eyes on the Pedersoli hammer coach gun!:)

I will eventually come to see matches...I understand that it's BYOB!!!!:D

Thanks for your input Garand...the originals were quite finicky too!
But when they work well they are fast!
