Two Sets of Pistols; Two Separate Classifications
SASS Rules and Competitions allow for two such classes; one for fixed sights; the other for adjustable sights. Then there are side matches for derringers and pocket pistols. Add the rifles and shotguns and you really need a golf cart to carry all the gear.
Actually four pistols is a good idea. Identical calibres would help the logistics.

As long as you sign up for a class (Modern, 49er, Senior, etc,) that allows the use of adjustable sights you can change back and forth, shoot one of each as long as you only bring two loaded "main match" revolvers to the line at one time.
If you sign up for a class that does not allow adjustable sights and use adjustable sights and get caught you could get a 10 second penalty for "Failure to adhere to the guidelines of the category in which you are competing". A 30 second "Spirit of the Game" penalty or if the RO is having a bad day a stage disqualification for "Use of an illegal firearm".
Always good to have a spare everything at a match!

It depends on the club's rules and how close they follow SASS rules (if at all). At our club we don't make much of a distinction when it comes to modern sights. We have so few shooting with modern sights so we for the most part just lump them in with everyone else.
I'm guessing you mean to shoot twice. Once in the traditional category then in Modern with the Blackhawks. If that's the case then again check with the club you are going to shoot at. It depends on what their policy would be on shooting twice in a match.

In alot of matches you shoot in "possies" or squads throughout the whole day and your chances of having the time to shoot the stage/stages a second time would be minimal. And yes, I do carry 4 Vaqueros to every match I shoot, 2 in .44 mag, 2 in .357. I carry a backup gun for every firearm that I compete with. Living on the prairies means I have to travel long distances to matches and therefore can't afford wasting the gas money by having a broken firearm. While Cowboy shooters are very willing to lend out their kit, keep in mind they might have only brought enough ammo for themselves, so if you not shooting their caliber, you're in trouble. Even if they do, your ammo might not cycle in their guns.

I have 2 vaquero's in 357 and shoot them fairly well.
I want to shoot cowboy action. There is nothing near home.
Work this year has kept me from traveling to a match.
I have a 357 blackhawk flattop that I bought for no real reason.
If I had a 2nd 357 blackhawk flattop could I shoot more and compete more and have more fun???
Should I be looking for another one?
