Does anyone know of a good used gun dealer in the Windsor/London area? I would like to get into CAS and would like to hear some opinions in regards to the best calibre gun to invest in. From what I understand you need two side arms, a lever action rifle, and a coach gun.
Web sites for dealers in the Windsor/London area would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Caliber: .38 Special/.357 Magnum cheap and easy to shoot and reload

Rifle: Marlin M1894 or Browning B92 in the above caliber. Stay away from post 64 Winchesters as they were not built for high volume shooters and they break.

Pistol: Ruger Vaquero in the above mentioned caliber, I fired over 20,000 rds through one of mine before I broke a transfer bar. Replacement part was $10.00 and took 20 minutes to install.

Shotgun: Personally I'm a fan of the Winchester M97 (non trench gun) for Cowboy shooting. If you practice it is a very fast gun.

Hope this helps.

I agree with the above but I prefer a good double barrel shotgun. Hot as fast but has more style as far as I'm concerned. Don't forget the clothing and the leather.

Check out some pictures of Winnipeg shoots. http://www.mts.net/~wrpa/

Shooters Choice in Kitchener/Waterloo has a good selection of new/used/sale item CAS guns....check their website. I know that is further away than you would like. I can't recommend any stores in London, I won't have anything to do with Goble's but there is a new store on Dundas St. in London called G&K Guns (or something like that) I hope to check out tommorrow and will let you know what I think. I don't know much about stores out Windsor way. There is a shop in Chatham I have always mean't to stop by, but haven't. Santa Rosa Shooting Sports in Rodney often has used long guns but I don't think he sells pistolas.

Hope this helps!

I bought all my Cowboy guns here on Gunnutz. Took longer but a lot cheaper than retail.

I concur on the Rugers and .38 is also a good choice based on cost but if you like another caliber you can have fun and be competive with just about any caliber. I shoot stainless Ruger Bisley Vaqueros in .45 Colt (second most popular caliber behind .38/.357), they fit my hand better and the sights seem to align more naturally.

I like stainless for the looks, ease of cleaning and rust resistance as we do shoot in the rain sometimes. Nothing wrong with blued guns though. If you get a chance to attend a couple of shoots take a look at everybodies gear, most pards will let you examine their equipment if there is a safe area.

Don't forget about General Gun and Supply in Windsor. I was just there on Wednesday and they have at least 6 single action Rugers and Vaquero's on display now. Not sure how many were used, but some were. Mostly 45 Colts I believe. They always have a selection of new and used rifles and shotguns suitable for the sport.
Santarossa Shooting Sports in Rodney usually has a good selection of new and used shotguns which are suitable for CAS but little in the way of rifles and no handguns.
Wortner Gun Works in Chatham have 2 or three single action handguns in the used cabinet but no used rifles or shotguns at the present time. George really isn't into selling pistol caliber rifles but every now and then something nice comes in on a trade.
Have not been to Leamington in quite a while so I don't know what he has in stock.

Laurence,

I was in G & K Guns in London today. They do have some single actions, including a consectutive serial number pair of stainless new Vaqueros that I was able to wipe my drool off of (thank goodness for stainless:eek: ), a couple of lever rifles and a couple of used double barrels.

Thanks JMJ for "filling in the blanks" west of London, I learned something here too:D

Laurence if you want to come to a CAS match there is one next Sunday, Sept. 24 at Otter Valley Gun Club, on HWY. 19, just north of Straffordville.

This might be another opportunity to watch the Cowboys do their stuff. The LSC is located about 100 yards east of #40 Highway at Bickford Line between Sarnia and Wallaceburg.

Wow. Thanks for all the info fellas. This is quite helpfull.
Kid I'd like to attend the Otter Valley CAS At some point in time as a competitor. I will however be checkin out the Lambton Sportsmans Club Cowboy action this Saturday to get some ideas on costume and guns. In the meantime keep your eyes peeled for "Longun Lou". I'll be shootin' up you're club in the near future.
Again thanks fellas.

The Cold Lake Kid;
You can bet I'll be coming to town, as soon as I am all setup. Ottawa Valley (Pembroke) is where I'm originally from. See you soon.

Laurence: If you're interested, the next club match of the Ottawa Valley Marauders is October 14 at EOHC (3w.eohc.ca for directions etc.)
We welcome newcomers, so bring what ya got for now. We can fix you up with what you're lacking to get you through a stage to try things out.
Lead bullets, light target shotgun loads, single action pistols, pistol calibre rifles and either a SxS shotgun, no ejectors, extractors only, or a '97 pump.
I won't be at the next shoot since I'll be celebrating Moosemass up North, but there will be lots of other Pards there like Stranger, Carp River Drifter, Rev. Damon Fire, Richelieu Mike, Sherriff Frenchie, Johnny Longo, Yorkshire Bob, Porcupine Pete, Orleans Outlaw, Bill Pinkerton and the OK Valley Kid to name just a few.
If you can't make that one, on October 28, there is another shoot at Grenville, hosted by Bear Child Potts and Irish Gal (3w.grenvillefishandgame.com)
Hope to see you shooting with us.

The Cold Lake Kid;
Thanks for the info. I'ts going to be awhile before I can get out and shoot. Too many projects on the homestead, and the wife is getin' antsy. But I will be around.
I'd just like to say that the reception that I have been getting from the CAS guys has been great. I was able to attend the Lambton Sportsman Club to watch the team shoot they had, and let me tell ya, those guys were having way to much fun. I'd like to say thanks to those guys that shared info about CAS and hope to be shootin' with them soon.
Again Thanks Fellas and Gals.

A CAS cowboy walked into a drug store and asked to talk to a male pharmacist. The elderly woman he was talking to said that she was the pharmacist and as she and her also widowed elderly sister owned the store, there were no males employed there. She then asked if she could help the

gentleman.

The cowpoke said that it was something that he would be much more comfortable discussing with a male pharmacist.

The female pharmacist assured him that she was completely professional and whatever it was that he needed to discuss, he could be confident that she would treat him with the highest level of professionalism.

The old bronco-buster agreed and began by saying, "This is tough for me to discuss, but I have a permanent erection. It causes me a lot of problems and severe embarrassment, and I was wondering what you could give me for it.

The pharmacist said, "Just a minute, I'll go talk to my sister.

" When she returned, she said, "We discussed it at length and the absolute best we can do is, 1/3 ownership in the store, a company car, and $3,000 a month plus living expenses.

I vote for 45 colt or 44/40. 38/357 is for gamey bastards who want to win. I just like hearing the plates plink once in a while :p and try to be more historical. I also shoot 44 Russian, suprise suprise. For shotgun I prefer the Win 97 as being a lefty it works better than a SxS. For rifle I use a Uberti Win 1873 which is the most forgiving accurate and good lookin gun.
