cowboy action shooting

Thunder Bay has a club that shoots 6 matches a year at the local Fish and Game Club. We use the IPSC ranges, the second Sunday of each month starting in May. The last match of the year match is always the first Sunday of October as the Thanksgiving weekend is the opening of moose season and we have our priorities straight!!!

We have about 27 or so members in the club, and average around 14-18 shooters each match. Normally enough for 2 posse's sometimes for 3.

Our setups are not as fancy as some clubs, and we cannot shoot steel targets on most of our ranges, but it's still a lot of fun. We stick to most of the SASS rules (all the safety ones), but we are tolerant on some things and don't worry about splitting into categories (not enough people).

If you're ever in Thunder Bay the second Sunday of the month, stop by.

The one thing you have to remember if you decide to TRULY get into CAS (I mean dress up and all that).

In the summer.... With all the coybow attire, remember just one thing. Back then the thread counts for shirts and such wasn't 180 threads an inch. Clothing breathed a hell of a lot more back then. Think of that before you shoot a match in the middle of a blazing hot summer day wearing your cowboy duds.
 
Jarlath: have a look around on some of the US online CAS stores and you may find some lighter clothing, colour and weight, more suitable for warmer weather. ;)
Or you could try making something lighter.

And you can't stop at one outfit:D

Try keeping bottled water for drinking in an ice filled cooler and a jerry can of other clean water, for washing hands or cooling off, near the back of the firing line for the posse. (We don't have running water or a well yet at our home range)
When it starts to get too hot, we'll often just pour a little cool water over our heads.
Better than a touch of heat stroke for us old farts.
 
SASS is the Single Action Shooting Society. It originated in Kali-Fornya, and spread around the world. It is incorporated, and protects its "intellectual property". It is the major agency conducting cowboy action shooting around the world. Canada is a region within SASS, and conducts an active schedule of events, including a regional final (this year in Courtney BC, on 28-31 Aug 08.)

CAS means "Cowboy Action Shooting", and I don't know if the name is owned?

action shooting is a very generic name and seems to cover all shooting games that include movement and "scenarios".

At CHINOOK COUNTRY on www.cascity.com The Deputy Marshals, "Rattlesnake Jack" and myself "Sir Charles deMoutonBlack" decided we would use the term "frontier action shooting" as being descriptive but not treading on any "copy-written" toes.

I wasn't being mean but I just couldn't let that joke get by.
That's the only site I have found that has classic red long johns. If you email the company they might be able to put you in the right direction or maybe special order for the big Guy.

I also would have worn something underneath cause I would want people fainting behind me :)

Why wait until spring? They are shooting an IPSC match in Thunder Bay today - outdoors!!! The brave brothers took the snow blower out yesterday to set up. No red long johns that I know of. Gun nutz or just plain nuts. Wouldn't be surprised if Bad Irish was out.
