Cowboy Shooting game video

Yes, the top shooters really are that fast.

There are a few tricks though. None of the really fast folks are using overly strong ammo. Notice that the guns simply don't kick at all. Soft loaded .38's are being used by many that only kick a little more than a .22LR. But even with this the results are more than simply impressive. There's still some amazing talent and many hours and buckets o' ammo used up for practice to get that good.

So while those lever folks are impressive the ones that really got my jaw hitting the keyboard are the couple of two gun "gunfighter" shooters that can #### and shoot two guns in hand so fast and smoothly. When I try it the results resemble a train wreck more than smooth shooting.... :D

Yes, some very impressive speed there. There are Canadian shooters in the sport that are that fast given the same target size & distance setting.
If you notice the rifle targets shown in the vid are 15 yrds or less and of very generous size. Guaranteed, any of those guys featured won't shoot that fast at an old fashioned cowboy shoot such as a Med Hat skinny tube shoot or Carmichael Sask. shoot where the rifle targets are 50 yrds away.
While caliber & load strength will regulate speed, target range & size will/ can have a more regulating effect.

And remember, those are the $2000-2500 (or more) very highly tuned 73's That B.C. talks of in the other cowboy thread going at this time.
I didn't have much luck trying to go that fast...poked the trigger thru my finger when I closed the lever before getting the finger out of the road...and that f#%%$n hurts.

Probably not a lot of difference in the volume of 44-40 or .45 lc shooters and .38 shooters overall, but most of, if not every one of the fastest 10% will be shooting a .38 or possibly a .32 in the states.

A lot of shooters have a set of each...and the fast will be fast with both but without a doubt they will be consistently fastest with their .38 setup.

So .38 is the most common load? I would have thought it would be 45LC

There are those in the sport who are extremely competitive. They generally use tuned 38 caliber firearms and shotguns using lower strength loads to give them any advantage they can get.

There are also those who enjoy a more reality based game. They use calibers like 45 LC and 44-40 with heavier loads. Some even go it all using black powder.

The best gamers can get off 10 rounds of SA revolver, 10 rounds from lever rifle and 4 rounds from their shotgun in less than 17 seconds. All of that with no misses.

Given, the targets are close and large (circles 16 inches in diameter) but in most cases haste still leads to multiple misses. At 5 seconds penalty per miss and 10 seconds procedural penalty for shooting targets in the wrong sequence the competition can be tough.
