coyote and other predator guns

I just shot a coyote from the tractor with my M1 garand. It was messed up pretty good with the 30-06 soft point round. It is just too big if your after the fur. Only solution would be FMJ type bullets. Not as bad. What ever happened to the 'accelurator' bullets? I rember having a few boxes for my 30-06 years ago. What was the actual bullet size ?

the problem with guns over .22 cal is that you have to start sewing the bullet holes... as long as there is no big rips and tares

the accelerators are still around you can get them for 30-30 and 30-06 but they're like $30 a box, i believe they're a 22 cal

As uphere said, you can still locate Remington's Accelerator's. The bullet used is a 55gr .224 SP held in a .308 sabot

I will kill a coyote with whatever is in my hand at the time. Aside from my rimfires, and my 338, all my guns, have taken at least one coyote. The old 30-30 even flipped one last fall while deer hunting. For pelt work though, i like the 22-250, or slower 22 centerfires, with a 50 gr ballistic tip. If not worrying overly about pelts, but taking what you can get, the 243 with a 75 gr hornady HP is a nice touch. If you dont care at all about pelts, use your deer rifle, that way when deer season comes around, and a tough shot presents itself, you will go back to that cold morning when a coyote gave you a very similar opportunity, and you will know what your rifle will do. September coyotes are nice 280 Remington targets to tune up for big game.

I have been using 22-250 and 264WinMag for quite a little while now and I have not found the 264 to be THAT bad on coyotes.I have taken them using the Hornady 95 grain V-max and the last two I shot were taken with 85g Sierra HP's flying at 3480 if IIRC.

Here is a dog I shot afew weeks ago with my Sendero in 264mag/85g Sierra's around 140yds:

Exit wound on far side(up a little high) Same coyote as first pic:

Another male coyote I shot the following night at 246 yds.,again not a terrible exit wound, and he was hit a little too far back.Same rifle, same load:

hmm i might get a 223 or something and get a shoot gun for deer and moose since it'd like to save the pelts seeing as that will allow more hunting options closer to home

I had a 223 but was calling in too many wolves so I stepped up to a 243 just in case little red riding hood's friend shows his teeth. Plus that's my deer rifle as well.
