Anyone know where I can find info on the status of coyote bounties in Ontario? A read an article today saying that the gov't was going to start compensating farmers for lost livestock. A lot of the responses were that "the money should go towards the bounty"

Just Curious as to it's current status.

Thanks
Jay

never heard of any bounty but I'm told farmers are paid 75% of a animals value if killed by coyotes.
I had a calf killed a week ago and that is what the appraiser told me.
If killed by a bear there is some compensation but not as much because they don't want to admit to a bear problem. Was a bear killed my calf and a few days before that another neighbor lost one to bear as well.
The appraiser said it looked like coyote to him. Sometimes I know enough to shut up.

only farmer get paid for animals killed by wildlife

i skin them take the skulls have the fur tanned and i clean and boil the skulls

sell the furs when i need money

i do the same for wolfs i got a black one not to long ago and 2 normal ones got some good money back when i sold furs(thay where tanned)

althought you may need a tag if your in one of thoughs zones/countys and the limit is 2

here in zone 94 i can take as many as i want

wolf/coyote are Furbearing Mammals
You may not let the flesh of any harvested game wildlife (see
Definitions, page 86) which is suitable for food be destroyed,
spoiled or abandoned. This includes black bear. A hunter who
kills a furbearing mammal shall not abandon the pelt or
permit the pelt to be spoiled or destroyed.

I heard oxford county was starting to offer a bounty on them but one needed written landowners permission and proof it was shot there. I like the idea of a bounty coming my way to recoop some of my investment in hunting and such but a bounty in this area means a lot of guys blasting away across fields with up to .270s on coyote drives. Sounds like ww3 when a dog takes to a field. Done correctly I have no issue with drives they work. But 6 truck loads of idiots surrounding a block all shooting towards one another gives hunters a bad rap

There is a bounty in Picton, but it is only for the landowners. They apply the bounty to your property taxes, prevents people from importing Alberta's dead dogs.

I've heard Wiarton pays a bounty in cash for 2 front paws, but can not confirm.

From the Kincardine News archives. No date. "Bruce, Grey and Huron are the only counties in Ontario that pay a coyote bounty." There is a great deal of 'red tape' involved too. You can't just haul a carcass into the County office.
There are quite a few web sites discussing coyote bounties. Bill Murdoch, the Progressive Conservative MPP for Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound, thinks there should be a $200 bounty. Lots of resistance too.

I got $50 for one coyote this winter......had to skin him and send him to the fur traders, but I got $50!

yea most yotes go for that untanned with out too much damage

the tanner here hates it when you use a shotgun i guess 2 holes is easyer to watch out for then 30+ when your fleashing them

i do all my deer hides the worst was a buckshot one fleshing is not so easy when you have 7 or so holes in the hide :)

I sent in 4 hides, all XXL pelts, got $50, $36 and $18. I think I may have got $5 for 10 hides in the previous years? I will admit im getting better at skinning.
