Well, that little aspen grove funnel might just be the go to spot. About 08:30 this morning I spotted this female yote at about 100 yards through the trees. It’s about as far as I can see through the aspens. She was headed towards me when she decided to go wide and circle around. I was able to catch glimpses of her through the trees but there was no shot opportunity. At least she was headed my way.

At 55 yards she walked into an opening, nose to the ground, but still moving. Crosshairs behind the shoulder, trigger, bang. She winced and ran off into the aspens and then I heard a crash of some broken branches/bushes.

I gave her about ten minutes then went to have a look. There she was, curled up against a tree, about 40 yards from where she was hit. The shot entered her left side a couple of inches low from where I thought she’d been hit.

Sako Finnfire in .17HMR.

Mature female, heavy, nice fur.
