Coyote down...now what?

I just attended a coyote workshop put on by OFAH here in Ontario a couple of weeks ago. There was a MNR officer there who spoke. In Ontario it is illegal to kill coyotes and leave them just to rot. You must take the hide. You do not have to take the meat.

Did they cite this regulation in the Ontario hunting regs? I just read through the entire section and have not specifically found it anywhere. Except for northern Ontario where tags are required for wolves and coyotes. In southern Ontario we keep good pelts only let em lay if pelts are junk. To my knowledge this is legal? If I am incorrect please let me know so I can inform others in our group.

They do cite this in the hunting regulations. 2015 Hunting Regulations, page 29, Game and Wildlife Parts - " A hunter who kills a furbearing mammal shall not abandon the pelt or permit the pelt to be spoiled or destroyed."

To the OP (or anyone else in the Lower Mainland of BC) - I would be happy to take a whole carcass (skinned or not) off your hands. Our university is looking for one (or more) to prepare as anatomical specimens. Drop me a PM if you'd be willing to donate one.

Or, if anyone knows a good place where I could "collect" one myself, I'd also appreciate that info. I've never hunted yotes before.
