Coyote Guns - What's in your pocket?

I use a Tikka t3 HB 22-250 with 52g HPBT and have good luck with it. Glock4ever you must try the .338 Lapua, I took mine out last weekend expecting to only get a few long distant shots. I ended up getting 2 but they both came in under 200 yards so not much of a test or challenge for it. I must warn you if you are saving furs a 250g Scenar is not a fur friendly load LOL

Mostly I use a Sako AII in 22-250 with hdy 55 sp and Varget. It recently got a Bushnell 6500 2.5x16x50,so I'm hoping to stretch out to 400 yds this year,as this does happen on a couple of places I hunt, gj

he, he ,he.... coyote whackin rifles, they are an obsession!!

Current rifles are as follows:

Ruger M77 Target in 22-250, bedded, trigger at 18 oz, Leupold VXIII, 6.5 x 20 x 50 in lapped Talley's. Pushing a 55gr Nosler Btip at 3,820fps (26 inch bbl), Good to 500 +

Surgeon action, Gaillard 28 inch bbl chambered in 243 AI, MacMillan A5 stock with Badger Ordinance bottom metal, Jewel trigger (set at 18 oz), Schmidt and Bender 5 x 25 x 56 (34 mm tube) with ART reticle, Badger Ordinance rings, pushes a 105 gr Hornady Amax at 3305 fps. Good as far as your range finder is accurate.

.220 Swift, .223 and .22-250 pretty well cover it for me.

Like the .243 as well and would like to try a 6mm Rem for a future LR project.

And a 300 SMK from a 338 LAI isn't either, but they don't suffer.
We are talking "instant death" !

Hey Farmer Brown, welcome to the forums!

I have a 200 in .223 as well, great year round carry and call rifle.

You guys have pics of what a .338 does to a coyote?

Haven't taken any pics yet, most of my kills haven't been too bad.
Did take the head off one fair-sized male not long ago, but it really depends where they are hit.
Believe it or not, my 17 Rem made a nasty mess of one but that was my fault.
( A poor shot )

I am still trying to find a fur-friendly load (hence the switch to the hornet). I have tried 40, 50, and 60 grain VMAX and it is hot and cold. Sometimes there is just a small pin prick with a small exit. Other times, it looks like a grenade exploded inside the animal. A really good friend of mine uses the Winchester Whitebox (45 grain HP) that round is probably the worst load we have both seen. It 9 times out of 10 will explode on the side of animal my bud still uses it because he has about 2000 rds left but he also isn't big on collecting the fur either (probably because he tends to get all the mangy dogs around his area). The scenar is a match bullet so I didn't think it would be explosive.

My brand new Savage 11FCNS .223 with 3-9x40 Bushnell Elite 3200 Muti-X scope tomorrow. I wouldn't hesitate to use any of the Savage tack drivers pictured though (.22 at close range of course). Top to bottom: VLP .223 5-15x40AO 3200, .22 BTVS 4-12x40AO Legend, already mentioned, 116FCSS 30-06 3-9x40 4200

I must say, those are beauty extension rings. Makes me wanna go out and buy a Savage :)
The extension rings would be on any rifle I buy as I refuse to stock crawl. Instant sight picture when a gun is shouldered is the only way. Savage accutriggers can't be beat. Careful though if you try one you might not shoot your other guns!
