Coyote hide prices

Who would want the hide from such an ugly and filthy animal? I shoot them, throw them on the back of the quad and burn them. What else would you do with an animal that is very likely infested with disease and parasites?

You're kidding right?

I hope so... Coyotes are no more disease ridden than any other wild animal out there.

This year I am giving all of mine to a local trapper, he got almost nothing for em last year, so he is going to keep a log of all of my "donations" and if he gets anything he will "donate" back to my reloading supplies.
If I can't get rid of them, I won't bother shooting them, I just don't feel right, nuisance or not.

But he has told me this year if the pelts are damaged, don't even bother. So I have invested in Barnes Varmint Grenades (so far so good) and a 17 HMR for the foxes. I do want to try the VGs on a fox to see what they are like, not exit wound at all on my first yote taken with them (last Monday).

I do the same thing. I have a buddy with a trapline and just drop the coyotes off for him to have.

The real pretty ones I have tanned up and usually give away to friends or family.

Although, coyote hunting in the Yukon is not as good as in the prairies.:D
Shot 3 last year by going out 10-12 times. Best year so far.

As a local trapper I will usually take them if not too shot up, but all you would get out of me is a half hearted thanks - 1.5 hours to process for $25.

either you make a lot of money or its just the dutch coming out in me, but $25 for 90 minutes "work" is good enough for me. especially if i were the one who was shooting and selling hides myself. its like getting paid to enjoy the experience and thrill of each hunt.

think of all you could have with that $25...

almost a case of beer
a few nice steaks
a box of ammo
a nice dance, two if at a "discount" establishment
gas for future hunting trips

Oh I am sure I make less than minimum wage doing beavers and muskrats, but I enjoy trapping and processing them and the end result. Yote don't do anything for me and seem like a chore. Red fox aren't worth much but are fun to do. Timber wolves can be nice, I did my last one as a trim grade for $125 at auction.

Easiest money to be made is fisher and marten. less than an hour for 40-130 bucks.

LOL!!!
Wouldn't a got squat for the one I hit last weekend. Nice tan bushy coat...Tagged it broadside with 150gr Federal "PowerShok" out of my .308
Kinda ruined it.

Fur prices are down across the board. Here in Newfoundland, the provincial government is paying hunters/trappers for the carcass, so whatever we get for the fur is a bonus. Most furs are now more valuable as fly tying material and value-added handcrafts or sold as tanned furs for throws and cabin wall decoration.

Just a note;

What constitutes "damage" to the pelt is any holes behind the ears. Even entry holes will get you dinged. If it's a really nice coat, or it has a nice colour, it might still be worth trying. But if you put a 4" exit hole in it it's probably not worth picking up. Same goes for if it has mangy patches, or is in the middle of shedding. Only really good coats are worth bothering with.
Cheers.
