Coyote Hunting Forums

rotaxpower, please don't take any personal offense to this.

I honestly don't want to cause conflict, anyone who knows me on cgn has seen this for years, but I was shocked when I registered and started reading at "coyotegods" a while back. They are quite specific in what they consider acceptable or not, and I can't say that I agree with all of it.

Do you find any usefull info at that site for someone who isn't willing to risk a coyote leaving injured when shot with the 17 rem that they specify as the proper round for coyotes?

No offence. Sure it is a small caliber, and you have to have take your time when you take a shot, but shouldnt you do that with every shot, even if you are useing a 22-250?

Here is a quote I took off another website, of course about the .17:
"I'm no ballistics whiz and don't profess to understand why that little pill is so deadly but my experience has shown me a great many things about that bullet that most folks wouldn't believe. I guess the easiest way to put in perspective is to look at how many deer have died from being shot with an 80 or 100 gr bullet out of a .243 or some such caliber. Well, a deer is three or four times as large as a coyote and the 80 or 100 gr bullet is three or four times as large as a 25 gr from the .17. All things considered, it's equal. Why shouldn't we get great results? When I put it to non-believers like that it seems to make a difference to them."

I recommend Predator Masters for sheer volume of information and Predator Hunt Canada for "homegrown" Canadian flavour. :dancingbanana:

I have to admit I like Coyote gods but then I'm a huge .17 Rem fan and there's lots of info there.
Other than that I really like Predatormasters.

I guess I just wouldn't fit in at that site either, shooting yotes with a 25-06 how barbaric :D

really a .17 please, its an air rifle caliber, on a .22 RF caseing :p

now the 204 is obviously far superior :) but I'de never own one of those either

A 204 Ruger on coyotes?......Blasphemous, how could anybody anchor a piddly little coyote with this...;)

Don't get 17 rem and 17 hmr / or m2 mixed up the 17 rem is darn close to a 223 necked down to 17 cal. a 25 grain pill @ 4200 fps is no hmr.

I jump between all three places PM and coyotegods are probably the highest volume places , coyote canada is fine just not the volume of data yet. I find PM and coyote gods sort of on opposite ends of the spectrum at coyotegods if your not using a 17 your a barbarian and on pm 22-25 is a just barely minimum.

Another lower volume site is varminter.com but some decent info there, I have probably posted more PM than coyotegods though I think for specific predator calling info coyote gods have better stuff in the archives.

Yeah, it will pick up. We have a 3rd of our members back and the "official coyote season" usually starts Dec 1st anyways.

I expect we will be more active than last year and the contest should be pretty fun with bigger prizes. Keep in touch.:)
