I smell a brewing right-coast CGN coyote rally down on the boot.

hmmm.

Now that sounds like something worth building a new rifle for !!!!!!

As to whether the yotes were run down ,run over or pounced on from a tree . Who cares , a dead yote is a good yote !!!!:D

I was at a friends farm near Yorkton, Sask. He had a picture from the early 30's showing the great uncles, a pile of coyotes 5' high, and 6 or so wolfhounds. From what I gathered, a pack of well trained hounds is really, really hard on coyotes.

Hi X-man, et al,

What are typical dates for the coyote season? Is rifle restricted to .22 centerfire? Are you allowed to hunt with dogs? Does a non-resident need a guide to hunt coyotes?

The season runs from from September 10, 2005, to July 8, 2006.

You have to use a centrefire rifle not greater than .225 calibre or a shotgun using shot size #2 or larger.

You don't need a guide or an outfitter to hunt small game or migratory birds in Newfoundland, only for big game, so I suspect you don't need em for yotes, either.

Just bagged a huge male yote in Antigonish NS.

45 pounds from a tree stand with a .270 at about 20 feet.

Full story to follow with pics.:D
Whoa! That's a biggie. Pics and story needed...
Did you do much damage to the hide with the .270?

Thanks CV32,
Tht gives me a good excuse to get back home. Lots of coyotes here in New Brunswick but it's all woods and you can't see any distance.

wile story.

He was massive - I'm having him made into a rug with head on. To serve as a warning to the others.

I'll save the story for the pics my buddy is sending.

:D

What kind of terrain are you guys hunting? I am from Corner Brook, and am going to get out in the next couple days and try to have a shot at a few yotes with my new rifle. Should I just pick a spot and try it, or should I scout around till I find some tracks or sign? Thanks.
