Hey everyone!

So, with the different seasons drawing to a close soon: deer, squirrel, grouse, etc, I have been really looking into getting into coyote hunting as a way to get through those long winter months.

I have heard from a few people that the Ottawa Valley seems to have a pretty healthy coyote population.. various people have told me they are seeing them everywhere.

I, unfortunately, haven't seen any yet this winter.. I saw a fox, and thats about all.

I am wondering if there are any serious coyote hunters in the area who would be willing to take me out for the day and show me the ropes. I am pretty busy up until Christmas, like I am sure most of you are, so I was thinking after the new year, if anyone is interested.

I will be trying myself. I am considering purchasing an electronic caller, because I believe my calling skills to be pretty abysmal (I am practicing though). I have a friend who owns a few hundred acres right outside of Winchester. He has some pretty long fields..He has had coyotes in previous years... He said that they tried putting their chickens in an outside pen several years ago, and they had about 30 chickens there and only 10 were left the day after apparently.. I was chasing one on their four-wheeler myself two years ago..

However, this year, we haven't seen any at all.
We are going to try a combination of electronic caller and bait pile, and see if we can get any this year.

Does anyone know of any other places near the Ottawa Valley that are have had lots of coyote spottings? or any farmers that have been complaining?

Please PM me if you have any info,

Thanks guys!

Residents of Greely have been making a big stink about the coyote population. Its pretty populated(people wise) though, so finding suitable land might be hard. Aswell lots of rich people who may not be supportive of shooting them (speculation on my part). Im just getting into coyote hunting aswell (in response to the low deer population and for the challenge). Good luck finding land, I'm having a hard time.

I live in the Stittsville/Munster area and I have seen quite a few. However, this area is full of acreages, so no hunting here, even on a farmers field.

My neighbors saw 2 large ones walking up my driveway a couple of days ago. I'm talking about true timbers, not coyotes. The wolf population has been growing every year from Bancroft right through to Pembroke but you can't hunt them in the townships surrounding Algonquin Park thanks to John Theberge. He and his wonderful wife Mary were the researchers who got the ban in place. They spent something like 20 years researching the wolves by putting collars on them and all they basically learned was that the wolves follow the deer. The said hunters were the main reason for wolf mortality and therefore the ban on hunting them.

hey i am in the valley too im in pembroke never shot a coyote before i only hunt ducks but i am going to start to shoot coyotes this year, wear are you located and i will let you know if i start to get any

goose23 - if you're hunting around pembroke be carefull of what township you are in. Wolf huntin is banned in all townships around the park.
