I know there are a few people on here from around the area. I tried posting in the mentoring thread with no luck. I'm hoping to find someone that wouldn't mind taking a new hunter out for coyotes. I have had no luck so far on finding land but would prefer to go with someone anyway, at least for the first time (and because my wife thinks they are going to sneak up behind me and attack me while doing the distress rabbit call I have been doing around the house that drives her nuts :p ).

I already have my hunting course and a 223 rifle. I'm in Pembroke and hoping to find someone fairly close by (Renfrew county area/WMU59).

be careful as to where you hunt..i believe certain wmu's around here are closed all year for coyote...wmu 59 is open though..I am going out sunday with a buddy..but like you am a noob, Ill ask him when im out on sunday and maybe the next hunt i could get you to come along..hunting in mcnab/braeside just before arnprior...your the one who responded to my ad looking for turkey hunting correct?

I would be sticking in WMU59, the WMU's around the park have a season I believe (and a 2 per year limit). As for coming out with you sometime, sounds good and I would appreciate it.

I responded in your turkey thread, I'm just waiting to hear back from a former co-worker who owns and leases land for farming. He's had some bad experiences in the past with hunters (he has livestock on parts of the farm) so we will see what happens. Hopefully he's willing to give it another shot and give us an area to hunt within 5-10min from Pembroke.

Have you tried knocking on doors to get permission to hunt? If you get to that point let me know and maybe we can go together as it might help convince owners.

Some townships around the park are "no-go". As you get farther way, you get into needing a tag during a season, to open season, small game. Best to make sure.
I think you need to realize that hunting coyotes/wolves is probably the most difficult hunting venture you can contemplate in your locale - its not as easy as it appears on Wild TV. Most coyote hunters are one man operations - having someone else tag along, especially a rookie, represents quite a sacrifice.

That's why I said WMU59, it's not right next to the park and has open season year round and no limit/tags. I know it's more of a one person thing but I do not have any friends or family that hunt and can take me out. If I have to I will learn on my own but I would rather someone experienced take me out so I can learn. Hell, even if we don't see a coyote or anything else that we could hunt at least I can still take away knowledge from it (calling, stand locations, different techniques, etc)

Tell you what , Show up at the Carp Sportsman show on April 13-14-15 and come to the Quakerboy Game Call booth and or my seminars and ask me all the questions you want. I do not lie to anyone, I transfer any info I have to others to help them out. I will give you what tips you want on Turkey hunting and Predator hunting, something that I have experince on along with other game hunts trhat I do not talk about.

Your more then welcome on my part...

That sounds good with me. I'm interested in going for sure, just need to see what's going on that weekend first. I'll let you know closer to the date.

Is it too late for coyotes? I finally got permission to some farm land. The permission is for me only right now, and pending how things go possibly bring a person (idunno1987) in the future.

depending on the wmu bud, its open all year....went out the other day with my bud in braeside...not alot of open country so longest shot wouldve been 50 yards..nothing came...but when we were switching areas we did see quite a few fresh prints...so maybe we shouldve stayed put...let me know if you are ever able to get another person out...looking at going to knock on a few doors for turkeys next weekend as well if your interested...pm me your DWAN email

cheers

Mike

It's wmu 59, so yes open all year but I have head people say once the snow is gone it's pretty much done with. I am probably going to head out this weekend and try my luck.

The land isn't very big, one field that is lined on 2 sides by wooded areas. Tons of turkey and some deer though so looks like I am set for later in the year.

I'm interested in knocking on some doors for sure, not much fun coyote hunting with one stand. I'll pm you my dwan email.

Heading out today to try a few coyote calls, then check spots for turkeys, and then go off to a different spot to pattern my shotgun for the first time and maybe zero my .22
